I hate "googling" for information that may or maynot be true! lol..
I have built my own "raised garden box" so i can start to grow my own Veggie garden, but in all honesty i dont know where to start! Buying the dirt... buying the seeds. My friend said to use water / soap as a pesticide to keep the bugs away. but since i live in maryland, when do i START my garden? now or wait till spring?
I want to grow Spinach, Kale, Chard, Tomatos, Blueberries and strawberries. Any advice for those?
Does it stop them from growing well if there is a bottom on the box?We live on base, and they spray a pesticide around the hosue called Phantom, and i WANTED to make my garden box kind like this picture down here, so it wouldnt be accidently sprayed by them..

but it currently looks like this...

You will first need to decide where you are going to put it. Get pressure treated wood to build your box. Place it in spot. Add dirt and let it sit till spring
In the spring find some one that has rabbits, get some poop and till in with dirt. Get your seeds and plant away

I live in Maryland, too. I always start my seeds in dixie cups inside and then out them out after the last frost. I've never done anything in a raised garden so I don't know about having a bottom or not.....

Well it doesnt have to be moveable, i just dont want my veggies sprayed with Phantom pesticides... I already built one for the ground. only cost me 20$ for everything. so id re build another one to be a few feet off the ground
Quoting dwintz2:My bad. Didnt read all of your post. You want a movable one. Just make a box, will have to be deep enough so the roots can grow.
Tomatoes, green beans, cucumbers, strawberries, have done corn a few times but it takes up so much room....thinking about carrots next year.

What do you grow?
