So we just mmoved into our first house but have noticed some odd things... We are downtown in a city so the house is around 100-125 years old

We have a laundry shoot.....not too odd but I love it

We have a dumbwaiter...you know those things that take thing from each floor..

We have a  "intercom" system.....you know those pipes with metal holes drilled into wood (you see them alot on the castle playgrounds)

Our basement has 8 rooms for some reason (our house isnt that big)

SOOOO much hardwood in these old homes

That sounds cool to me about your house.  Nothing to odd here.  We live in a basic run of the mill ranch style house.....

We live in a very old house, too.  Crooked hallways, coal room in the basement...and a woman with an ovenmitt in the molding.

That's awesome.

The house I lived in growing up was so cool. In the living room, there was a room that looked like a closet from the outside but when you open it up, it's a full bar with a sink and a wine rack and everything.

We had the same thing, only with a double counter and two sinks upstairs in our game room, and we had a laundry shoot also.

My best friend's parents have a lakehouse with three stories. The ground floor is the laundry room, a media room and a guestroom and bathroom. All of their bathrooms have a red light that acts as a heater for when you take a shower so that you're not cold when you get out. haha, I think that's awesome. And they have all kinds of doors that lead to nowhere and passages behind the walls that go from one room to another. It was rumored that the old man went crazy there adding onto his home.

There's nothing really special about our house, it's a rental. I really like our master bathroom, the countertop is really long with double sinks. We have his and hers closets on either side of the shower and you have to step up to get in.

The house I grew up in had a laundry shoot, I loved it!  Put my little sister down it once, she got stuck and we almost had to call the fire department!  So watch the kids around that thing! haha

The 1st house I owned was about 60 years old.  It was built out of railroad ties, seriously, this thing was damn near sound proof because if it!  And the basement was only about 6.5 feet high, it looked like it was for dwarfs!  Oh and the previous owners thought painting it smurf blue would be neat!  We changed that real fast!

The house I'm in now is only about 60 years old and doesn't really have any "odd" features.  However the front doors and all the bricks in the fireplaces came from an old church that was torn down.

I love old houses and am fighting with DH about what we want to actually buy, he wanted newer than the 80's and I want older than the 70's!

Some people get the virgin Mary on a screen door...I get the shape of a woman wearing an ovenmitt
We call her Ruth.  ;)

You named her, that's great!  haha  In the house I grew up in, my Mom still lives there, in one of the rooms with textured ceilings there is a man with a cowboy hat, but we never named him.  We never went in that room, because that is were Ashley was.  She is our resident ghost, a little girl from the 1950's.  Anyways!

We have three recessed lights in two corners of our room.  It is a really big bedroom, so there are 3 of those lights over the area where our bed is, then there are 3 in the area where our couches and tv are.  I thought that the 3 lights over our bed kept burning out really quickly or something.  Now I don't know whats going on because they take turns going out and then coming back on.  One will go out for about 5 minutes, come back on, then a few minutes later one of the others will do it.  It goes on all day long......starting to creep me out, lol.

We have a sunroom also, but we use it as a game room.  We have a pool table, dart board, and a few tables in there.  I love it, we have a lot of fun in there.  Not really weird though, lol.

where shall I begin.  We bought our first home end of July and moved in end of Aug. We are still finding odd things about this place but nothing cool like you.  Lets see to start off with they had carpet in every room of the house.  This includes the bathrooms, kitchen and garage.  The 2 car garage was used as a garage oh and the front porch and back porch also covered in carpet but at least that was outdoor carpet. Still ugly as all hell.  Several electrical outlets have been covered over.  We had an electrician come out b/c one room had NO outlets.  So he started doing his work and he said well the hires show yall have outlets going back there. No idea what they used that room for.  Several walls they repaired themselves have been repaired with wood while others were repaired with some kind of metal and still some others were repaired with duct tape.   Oh we also found a container of small pox vaccine.  ( we gave that to a Dr in our area after calling him asking the safest way to get rid of it. )  And that is just some of the weird things
