and can't find a job because you don't speak spanish either move or learn spanish. Spanish is quickly becoming as necessary as a high school diploma or a college degree. Times are changing. If you can't beat 'em join 'em or you'll be the one left without a job or a way to communicate with a large percentage of the U.S population. No where is it written in stone that english is the national language and it is not required. Hell, it wasn't even the original language. We live in the land of the free and a place of great opportunity for people of all ethnicities and all cultures and languages. This country offers for many people a chance for a better life. If this country only provided these opportunites to those who speak english then it wouldn't be the country that we all know and love and for all we know half of us and our ancestors would not be here now free and able to discuss the issue. Too many of us take for granted how free we are and what a great country we live in. If you don't agree with that go research the cultures and beliefs and the way so many other countries are run. There end of rant. Feel free to discuss if you like :)
Ok I used spanish because it's the most common language complained about but the same can be said for any second language. And when I said move I meant within the U.S I wasnt kicking anybody out of the country but if you live in freaking Miami or Los Angeles or somewhere that is highly populated with spanish speaking people well hell go live somewhere where that isn't the case because moving would be a hell of a lot easier than just learning a little bit of the language to make your life easier. Yes they should make the effort to learn english but if they don't will you always rely on somebody else to make your life a little easier. Why is it so awful to enrich your life and your intelligence by picking up a few words in a foreign language?
oh lord.
Im, Laura. I hope you learned that from my screen name. If not, well now you know. I live in Alaska. I'm not gonna lie, I'm a Snow Ninja. Although, my day job is standing outside in front of my igloo looking like Igloo Trash in my snow boots, seal skin tank top & short skirt and screaming profanities at my neighbors. I'm marvelous, I know. I have a daughter named Lorelai. Her daddy is Chris and together we make one big family of Igloo trash. Be Jealous.
Yep moving is the answer to everything..BS. Im an Army wife my husband is stationed at Ft. bliss in El paso Tx. I DONT HAVE THE CHOICE TO LIVE HERE! Yea I can learn Spanish.. and THE NON ENGLISH SPEAKING POPULATION CAN LEARN ENGLISH AS WELL. Why should i go out of my fucking way to cater to some one else's needs. Fuck that. I was born in this country. I have learned enough Spanish to get by and ask simple shit and thats enough.
My dad always says,"it wasn't the Mexicans who hopped on a boat and sailed over seas to America..we were already here."
He also says"I'm proud to be an American."
your right, we were built on many cultures.and now we are trying to erase that.
Well, Spanish isn't the only language they teach in high school. In ours they taught German and French also. So you don't need Spanish specifically to graduate, you just need a foreign language.
Another thing, bi-lingual doesn't mean English and Spanish speaking.
I feel that if I have to learn languages for people to live here, then they should be required to learn English to live here. Also, I shouldn't have to move, I was born and raised in this country.

Seriously. lol. Seeing as 82% of Americans speak English than it makes more sense for the other 18% to learn English... Not make everyone else learn a language that only a small portion of the nation speaks. Thats ridiculous. Those that can't communicate with English speaking Americans should be the ones that leave.. not the ones that CAN communicate with 82% of people. ..If anyone has to leave at all.. which no one should have to because who really cares.
Quoting hj00:
Why can't they learn english? They're the ones that CHOOSE to move to this country!!!!!!
If I moved to a foreign country (or even visited), I would learn THEIR language so that I could communicate. Or I would take necessary precautions to make sure I could communicate. I would not expect everyone to have to make exceptions for me. I think it's only fair that those who move here (from any country) should be expected to learn English!
