Do they check before...

Do they monitor you for contractions before they give you pitocin? Because I go in Monday to be induced and I am having contractions..but nothing that hurts or anything. I mean I am 5cm dilated according to my midwife so I SHOULD be delivering soon. Today is my due date.  But I don't want to go in to be induced and them give pitocin if my contractions are working on their own and I am just lucky and don't really feel them. Being induced sucks as I was induced with my daughter and I really want to avoid it as much as possible!

Also does anyone know how to make contractions stronger or should I just wait it out? I mean obviously my cervix is softening and dilating just fine..lol...

I was so excited to be at 5cm..cuz a week ago I was barely at 1cm! I stayed at 3cm for a month and a half with my daughter!

Are they inducing you because of a medical problem or because you are"late"?
If it isn't a medical issue, you can refuse the induction, just don't show up if they give you a hard time about canceling.
I went into labor on my own, but I am sure they would moniter your contractions before.

Walking around will help your baby settle down further into your pevis and should help your natural contractions be more efficient. Good luck. You could always ask them to monitor your contractions before consenting to the pitocin.

I agree, if it's not needed i wouldn't go in. I'm wishing i would have known that with my son so i didn't end up with a csection. But they monitored me before the induction. and they actually started out by just breaking my water. i didn't want pitocin.

I am not sure why I am being induced lol. I think she scheduled it because she expects me to have the baby before then. I see a midwife and before she checked my dilation she acted like she'd see me in the office next week..but then after she checked me she said I was dilated to 5cm and she could sweep my membranes if I wanted (which I said ok too) and then she did that left so I could get dressed and came back and told me that she doesn't think I'll need it but se'd like to induce me monday and I said ok. I have no problem with being induced if I'm not progressing on my own..but I don't want to be doing fine on my own and have them try to speed things up or something..

I don't want them to break my water..if it breaks on its own fine but I don't want them too because then you're on their time limit and they'll push for pitocin and c-sections and crap! lol..so I am not letting them break my water I'd rather have pitocin then be put on a time limit..with my daughter they broke my water and about the time she was delivered they were trying to override my moms decision for a c-section...I was 16 so I couldn't consent to surgery myself..

When I went in and was 5 cms I wasnt in active labor...all my doctor did was break my water and thats all it took to put me into active labor...they may not have to do anything besides that!

Having your water broken is more natural than putting pitocin drugs into your system... once the water is broken the cushion is removed and the baby's head starts to put pressure on your cervix and it begins to dilate and your uterus usually begins to contract on its on...it also releases natural hormones to kick start labor.I had one induction and then one were they just broke my water and trust me the latter was so much easier!!!

I see your point..IDK..I know with my daughter they broke my water and had me walk around but labor never started..but I bet since I am contracting (regularly too) theyre just not progressing yet..that breaking my water would help things out..hmmm...I am glad you said that! I never thought about it that way...

You don't have to do a c-section if you don't want to because it doesn't matter what their time limit is if you don't sign the papers they don't have the right to do it! Most cases they do c-sections for emergencies! Good luck and hopefully you go into labor on your own!
