Ok one of my closest friends and i are working on her homework, and one question is 'Why do you believe divorce rates have risen exponentially in the last three decades?' Now she and i have come up with various reasons, but how would you answer this question?

because wives no longer let their husbands mistreat them. the respect for women in this world has risen and its gotten much easier for a woman to survive on their own. women arent sitting back as much and letting their husbands control them
SOOO true...we so didnt even think of that loL!

Divorce is more acceptable now you are not shunned for having a failed marriage. The stigma attached with being married 2,34, or even 5 times is not as prevalent anymore. :)

Also very true!

well i would have to bring up the money situation. Couples always stress about money therefore it leads to working harder, being worn out, and innevitably being irritable and cranky so fighting is definitely going to happen more often.. all the fights over time begin to add up

Thats a good point, although my husband and i have next to no money, and it doesnt bother us...that could be because we never had any growing up either...or the fact that its not that 'important' to us...

I believe there are lots of reasons. One being that women are given so many more opportunities now. You can do what you want to do as a woman---making you much less reliant on a man. Back in the day, you had to rely on a man. Second being, it is the norm now to get divorce---it doesn't put you to shame. [Which is a shame....] If something doesn't work out, just end it. Third would be that men don't know what they want anymore---used to be all women were mostly the same. They got married, pregnant, and raised kids. Now there are options for men---independent women, needy women, co-dependent women, etc...
I agree...it used to be more simple lol!
