How can I get my dr to listen to me???

Im at my wits end with the doctors on this base. Im in MAJOR pain I cant bend I cant stand, walk,or sit the only time Im remotely comfortable is when Im lying down. This is going on 2 yrs. Ive had a CT Scan and 2 MRI's one on my head and one on my back. I just changed my PCM after she looked at me and told me Im crazy and that the pain is in my head.

I am not taking pain meds because my ex BFF told my dr who is also hers that I was abusing them so they now have me restricted from them. I want someone to believe me when I say Im hurting. Anyone have any advice?

(My pain is back/hip pain and numbness and SEVERE pain down the front of my legs that is caused by years of abuse at the hands of my ex.) I feel like Im being punished. I had a major meltdown and told my husband that I am useless as a wife and mom and that he deserves someone better. He just held me while I cried which is something I needed so bad.

Please help all I do is cry cuz the pain is so intense!

I'm glad your husband held you as you cried. Mine never does. You're lucky. I don't know what to do abuot the doctors or the pain. Good luck with that.

It is illegal for your friend and Dr to be discussing your medical care. Is there any way at all you can see a Dr off base? In one of the Dr offices I used to work in the Dr would give a big discount if you didnt have insurance and would pay for the visit in full while there (Im thinking your insurance wont cover off base. Im sorry Im not familar with military Dr's and insurance) Like a $120 visit would be $70 if you could pay then.  Call around and see what can be done. Many private practice Dr's set their own rates (rather than the big medical groups) and are more willing to help patients. Thats the reason most Dr's open thier own office, so that they have more control in patient care.

My BFF had alot of problems with base dr's too. she has spina bifidia and it keeps her in constant pain and they wouldnt give her meds either. I really hope you can get some help for your pain by another Dr. Sounds like you wont get anywhere on base. Either that or just keep going back constantly over and over to prove to them your in pain.

Have you considered alternative medicine like acupuncture or chiropractic. It's out of pocket, but in my opinion they do a much better job at helping you then the base does, in some instances.

I would see a naturopath since modern medicine is failing you, and go from there.

Get a second opinion.  This doctor isn't helping you and you need help.  Plus the consult with your friend was unprofessional and out of line.  Doctors are human and make mistakes so second opinions are vital.  I hope you get the help you need.

i have really bad pain like what you have. well my spine is twisted and one of my legs is 3/4 inch shorter than the other. i have a dr out in town instead of going on base and i love my dr office. they are sending me to physical therapy and hopefully that work for me. my dr office has me on daily pain pills and muscle relaxers

It is not illegal for a friend or family member to tell your Dr. that they feel you have a drug problem, it is illegal for your Dr. to say any thing to your friend about your care the only thing a Dr. can say when someone calls and tells them that they feel there loved one is abusing pain meds / illegal drugs is I will take note of that and thank you.

O.P. ask your Dr. to send you to a pain specailist for pain management.

Thats what I said. Its illegal for them to be DISCUSSING it. I never said it was illegal for her to inform them of a drug problem. I dealt with family members trying to get medical info on patients everyday.

sorry, but from the way you posted it sounded like you miss understood what she said about her BFF telling her Dr. that she thought she was abusing her pain meds. I use to also work in a Dr. office and a Hosp. so I know what it is like to deal with people trying to get others medical info.
