This is a little long, my question is in bold....everything else is just the explanation.
My son Dante will be 3 in jan. He had a "lovey" or whatever you want to call it named "dog"(very creative, I know). Well, yesterday we went out to the store and walked outside a little bit and later when I put him to bed I realized we didn't bring dog back inside. DH went looking around for him last night and couldn't find him.
When I put Dante to bed he asked for dog, I told him the truth....that he is lost and we will try to look for him when he wakes up.....well, it was pretty much like telling him his best friend died. He was crying, asking me where he is, why don't I just go get him now, did I drop him outside, etc. It was horrible....
So, DH found a dog that's very similar online....I don't think it's gonna pass...it looks like it even may be the same brand but a newer version, so the colors are a little different. ANyway, Dante's not stupid....he'll know it's not him.
SO my question is, assuming we don't find dog today what the hell am I gonna do??? How should I explain it to him and what can I do to make it better??????
Last night I gave him one of my old stuffed dogs to sleep with and I told him he can use it until/if we find dog....he wasn't happy about it, he said he just wanted HIS dog. SO what am I supposed to do??? PLEASE HELP!!
OH and just in case...that's a pic of him with dog....not a good one but that's him...the brand is First Impressions. I've looked all over for it before but it was a gift and I have no idea who bought it and where they got it from!
So, we looked all over, asked around the stores and we found nothing. At one point Dante asked me, "Dog fell down on the floor and he wants me??" And he looks at me with these huge watery eyes.
The stores we went to are right near Toy R US, so I figured we'd try to get a new toy....I just can't wait until we get a chance to go t oBuild A Bear. SO I explained to him that dog is gone and he can't sleep with him at night anymore. I said if he wants we can go to Toy R Us and pick out a new toy for him to sleep with. He said ok(reluctantly) and he really took his time picking out a new stuffed animal. He went with an Elmo. He took a nap with him fairly easily...he just asked me, "dog isn't here??"
So, I figure we'll see how Elmo works out and if it does I will go to the store and buy a few more in a few days!

That brand is from Macy's. I looked online and ebay has something similar, but not the same. You could always go to a Macy's with the picture and maybe they can try to get it from a warehouse or just keep looking online.
Another idea is take him to build a bear and tell him he can make his new puppy.

That does look like the same dog! Good find! I'm going to ask you for help next time my kids lose something!

Thanks a lot...that's the one we found too. DH ordered it but it's def not the same. Dante's dog also had a patch on his eye but it was the same kind of fur as the rest of the dog.

Thanks a lot. I may do that......but I don't think they'll have the same old version I got it prob in 2006, early 2007.
I like the build a bear idea though....I know he'll still be sad but he'll def be excited about that.

maybe try ebay? I know my youngest carries the same blanket around EVERYWHERE. No biggie, except his older brother did the same thing - with the same blanket....and now after 5 yrs, I'm afraid it isn't going to last much longer! We were able to find an exact copy online and got it, but since the new one is basically BRAND new - it's still soft and fluffy and the one he carries around definitely isn't so much - he kinda refused to go near it. :-/ But blankets wear differently than stuffed animals, so maybe you will have better luck! Who knows - maybe it will turn up sometime today - go back to the store and see if someone turned it in. Good luck mama, I've been there too!

That's what I'm hoping. The stores open at 10am so we're just waiting. I'm hoping someone found it and gave it in....not stole it!DH actually looked on ebay for like an hour and nothing!

Dh did that last night and he couldn't find it, but I'm gonna do it again today. Poor DH even went kicking leaves around thinking maybe it was under some leaves.
