I have taken on too much I think I have 2 quilts for my youngest and my niece in progress and my oldest is now wanting a quilt for xmas too. go figure my 11 yo is asking for a quilt not video games, she is a sweet girl she said it would wrap her up in my love every night and keep her all snuggly and warm. anyways here is where the help is needed, the babies quilts I can do no problem they are fairly small and easy to manage but my big girl is 11 so hers will need to be much bigger I dont know what I am doing as far as the actual quilting of the layers and I dont know how I am supposed to quilt this huge blanket on my little machine. my mom said that I should do each square seperatly then sew them all together but how is that supposed to work won't I have padding sticking out of my seams? is there any feasible way to do this besides hand stitching the entire thing xmas is only a month away i need to get it done pronto.

My grandmother always did full size quilts.  She could not hand-quilt them by herself and she demanded they be hand-quilted and not done by a machine.  I think you actually have to have a quilting machine to do big quilts, but I am not positive.  Anyway, because my grandmas arthritis was so bad, she couldn't do them.  She told me there are places that you can send them off too and they will either hand-quilt or machine quilt them.

That probably isn't much help, but it gives you an option if you need it.

I quilt by hand.  But if using a machine like your I would use it to stitch the squares together so that they are a quilt top.  Then you simply get the batting you want to use (get off the roll so it is long enough) and the material for the bottom.  Pin the sides together and stretch on quilting hoop or stand.  Then hand quilt starting in the center and working out.  either roll the edges and stitch or use edging....

thanks ladies I do appreciate both replies, I really want to do it all by myself but if I can't finish them by xmas I may consider sending them out to be done the prices were actually pretty reasonable
