My friend just lost her baby at 25 weeks pregnant due to preeclampsia, it was her first pregnancy. She was not told about the symptoms or anything and come to think of it this is my 3rd pregnancy and i don't even know about it (well until i looked it up yesterday).. I just feel so sad for her she was so excited to be having her first baby. I can't help but think if she was told about it as soon as she noticed the swelling she would have called the Dr. and not waited.. I am wondering if you were told a bout preeclampsia during your pregnancy?? Did they tell you the symptoms??
I had my son at 33w6d due to severe pre-eclampsia and when I went in my bp was 220/170 and told if he wasn't out in an hour they didn't think we would make it! I wasn't told SQUAT about pre-e while pregnant! My signs for it started at 18 weeks! No joke! My doctors let it get way out of hand! I am now with a new OB and will be monitored closely for now on!
this is my 3rd pregnancy and i have never had a doctor tell me about it. i have no idea the symptoms..
Nope my dr never said anything to me about it with my first or my current pregnancy, i learned about it during my first pregnancy from "What to expect when your expecting"
I didn't know about pre-eclampsia until I had it. I was pregnant with my third and had to deliver her at 30 weeks.
There's not much your friend would have been able to do. Part of the reason why you pee in a cup is so they can test the protein in your urine. That's the ONLY way they knew I had pre-eclampsia. I didn't swell, I didn't have high blood pressure or any of the other signs they look for. I just had elevated liver enzymes and high protein.
I think if they were to tell you everything bad that can happen during pregnancy, we'd go crazy. We would constantly be looking for signs and completely stress ourselves out, which is also bad for the mom and baby.
I am SO unbelievably sorry for your friend.

Yes they told me. I didnt need them to tell me because I was one of those people that read the "What to Expect When Youre Expecting" book about 10 times cover to cover ( no joke! ) and did a whole bunch of research online. I was very informed about birth defects, pregnancy problems, and postpartum issues... probably too informed because I spent most of my pregnancy worrying. lol

That happened to my sister...they had to take my nephew by C-Section as a preemie. ( 6 weeks early) He will be a yr old next month....thank goodness they are both doing well :)
OP : Sorry for your friends loss...I've had 2 miscarriages...but not that far along. I can't imagine the pain and sorrow she must be feeling.

They told me, and I was even put on bed rest for it. But I barely delivered on time(my due date) and was majorly sick the entire delivery.
And plus they gave me a little booklet about pregnancy , which told be all about the tests. I think I informed myself pretty well about pregnancy since I read everything I could get my hands on about it.
I've had it twice - my first and third pregnancies. My first pg, it got out of control basically because my dr did not monitor me correctly and kept ignoring all the symptoms. Luckily my daughter and I survived, though she did spend a week in the NICU. My second pg was a piece of cake. My third pg, I kept hovering on the border of being pre-eclamptic but my ob this time was MUCH better and kept tabs on me very closely. I ended up having my son at 35 wks but he did great and went home with me from the hospital. Now I am pg again and wondering if it will strike AGAIN.
I had pre e with my first they didnt tell me anything aout it until I was diagnosed. I was induced 5 weeks early.
of course with the twins they moniotored me better and I was officially diagnosed with pre e at 18 weeks. (I did 24 hour urine collections every week starting at 16 weeks I was on edrest anyways starting at 13 weeks due to other issues. I was life flighted to the city at 28 weeks and 4 days, they kept me there, 3 days later the blood work came back positive for hellp syndrome I had my twins an hour later be emergncey c setion.. It was very scary!
