I woke up at 4:30 am to the sound of a large crash and the house shaking. Of
course the first thing I think is "Do they have earthquakes in Iowa?" So I walk
downstairs to see a car smashed into the side of mine. As soon as the kid saw me
he took off down the street so I called for John and told him to run after him
and John didn't even hesitate as he ran down the street in only his underwear in
30 degree weather. John claims it was colder. LOL. Apparently the kid was drunk
driving a 2010 rental car. From what it looks like he was coming from an off
street road and didn't realize that the road had ended. He was driving so fast
that even though he was going UPHILL he managed to completely break through a
wooden telephone pole(he completely snapped it in half, up hill through the neighbors lawn for a good 50 feet and was air born into
our car. When I walked out ALL FOUR OF HIS CAR TIRES WERE OFF THE GROUND! The
back bumper was resting on the retaining wall and the front of his car was IN
our jeep. He was going fast enough that he pushed our car about 4 ft into the
other retaining wall. The police ended up catching him. I have no idea why he
decided to run. It's not like they can't trace back to him through the rental
company. Guess it shows just how drunk he was. Anyway, the police obviously
arrested for DUI and fleeing the scene. They had also found some other stuff in
the car. Luckily were we all safe and sound in the bed snoozing away and
everyone is okay. Even though we are not happy with what happened we are just
happy that he managed to hit a parked car rather than one with a family in it.
guess in a few weeks we'll be car shopping. So our
lesson in all of this? When you live on a busy road it's best to just park in
your garage. LOL. Hope everyone else's morning isn't quite eventful as ours.

He is a Grade A idiot!! Glad that ya'll are safe though.
Hubby and I were talking about that. Most people who go through an accident like wouldn't have gotten up and walked away let alone get up and RUN away. He's really lucky that he was able to walk away from it all.
Quoting msmoody:
Wow..
It's a miracle he didn't kill someone.
No they should be shot. My aunt was killed by a drunk driver. She was only 17. I think if we could leagally shoot drunk drivers maybe people would think twice before selfishly getting drunk and getting behind the wheel.
Quoting kk_bella:
Omg, glad you guys are okay. That sucks. I don't think they should be shot, though, we have a legal system for that.
