If you are home alone? I HATE answering the door when my DH isnt home!!
I was sitting here reading the reply's of some "fly swatting" post, lol, when my son said "mom, someone's here!" I made him go to my room and i put on a sweater because i only had on a tank top and pants....and its cold, lol. Went over the 911 protocol with my 7 y/o before officially deciding to answer the door. I wasnt going to answer it at all, but they guy kept knocking! So, I answered the door with my big dog(okay, medium sized, fat and pregnant dog but she made me feel better, lol) next to my side. The guy was just looking for directions.
I would feel better about answering the door if we didnt live out in the middle of nowhere. we are the only house for at least a mile....so no one would know if anything happened. Man, I'm still all freaked out! I dont know why i get so freaked out. I should feel safer with all these hillbilly country folks, right?
Does anyone else get that freaked out about that kind of situation?
I don't really get too freaked out when someone knocks on the door. I do however sometimes feel embarrassed if someone were to want to actually come in and trip over the tons of toys the kids have all over. haha
I always answer my door. Did something happen when you were younger to make you feel so nervous about that? Just curious.
no, i never get freaked out with answering the door... i'm not married but my SO works ALOT so i'm home all the time with my daughter.. and before i got with my SO i was a single mom... i don't really fear stuff like that. idk y? I don't get scared walking down the road by myself at night and a matter of fact i NEVER lock my door.. lol. seriously i don't even have a key for my front door... idk.
I feel the same way! I wont answer it unless it is someone I know! Iv just heard too many horror stories about guys "looking for directions" and stuff like that...
No. I refuse to answer the door if I don't know who it is. It used to not be a big deal but now I live in a city where "murder" is way too common. I have a friend who's friend was shot that way and they're pretty positive it was gang related. NOT FOR ME.

When I lived out in BFE, I didn't answer my door. Anyone I know that was going to come over, would call to make sure I was home first b/c it was a half hour trip for them. If my door was knocking and I got no call from anbody, nope not answering. Now that I'm in town, I can see right out the wondow so I answer it.
We have 3 floors with the main living space on the second, so I always peak out the window above the door first...then I use the answering system to tell them I will be down IF its someone I know.

No, I never answer the door when someone knocks unless I'm expecting them. I live across the country from my family. I have friends but most of them don't know where I live. There is no reason for anyone to knock on my door. If they do I put the kids in room and have my closet door and safe open and have the phone in my hand ready to dial 911. I have my gun in the safe. My DH is deployed and I am not taking any chances answering the door to a stranger.
