Just curious how a person can home school and have very poor grammatical skills? How can a parent be an effective educator in this situation? Maybe they can learn together? Inquiring minds want to know.
I'm such a grammar nazi, I get it from my mom, she is too =)
Most of the time I let it go because as soon as you say anything you have 20 people jumping down your throat calling you grammar police. But what's so bad about being grammar police? Maybe if more people were Americans would be taken more seriously as intellectuals.
I can't imagine a teacher not knowing how to do math but teaching it anyway.
I think on CM it's a more relaxed atmosphere. But when teaching, you are accountable for shaping a child's future, that's why i'm curious.

The kid ends up teaching themselves.
Thats what happened to me. My mom didn't even finish high school and decided that she needed to homeschool me.
Past 6th grade I taught myself.
I am a firm believer that homeschooling should be illegal, but thats just me.

Yes, i'm student teaching. I'm a special education major and honestly the school system is so overcrowded, many get lost in the system. I do support homeschooling, especially with the overcrowding. I've been working with 3rd grade students who cannot even read. It's so sad.
Quoting MomX04:Have you heard how some of the kids in public school talk? Homeschooling isn't a do all, end all when it comes to learning or not learning good grammar.

Good point. And every person, child and adult have their weak spots. I was in shock tonight as I was going through a drive through. My total was $ 7.24 and so I gave the teenager (prob around 17 yrs old) $10.24. He messed something up on the register and panicked! He couldn't figure out how much change to give back to me! Uh...$3.00. Pretty simple, but sheesh!!
3rd grade, you're lucky. I'm a homeschooling mom of four and I'm in college and I was floored my first quarter when I found that over half of my class couldn't read the required books outloud!
