My neighbor thought her cat was pregnant. She didn't want to deal with the kittens so she took the cat to get an abortion.     Really? getting your cat an abortion?

Anyways it turned out that the cat wasn't pregnant so they just got her fixed.

I don't know why it is just a tiny bit funny to me....... after I get past how mean that is, I giggle a little. (yep I'm a horrible person)

Can you really get your pet an abortion? I know they are animals and not quite as smart but doesn't that traumatize them? Mama cats get pretty attached to their kittens, I don't know about while they are pregnant though.

Yep, you really can get your cat an abortion.  Often rescue organizations will abort pregnant cats because of the cost of taking care of new kittens.  When they are pregnant they don't know any better so no, you are not traumatizing the mamma.  It sucks that it happens but is so much better than euthanizing a cat that has already been born who is unwanted.

You get them fixed, if you do it early enough they don't even know...it gets tricky if they are far along in the pregnancy

I have never heard of that before. I wonder if they just give them some kind of med to make them lose them.  I don't think a cat would be traumatized by losing a pregnancy.  I think animals are more in tune with the fact that death and loss is normal than humans are.  Animals have no problem eating their own if need be to clean the area or control population, so I don't see a cat walking around being depressed from losing a pregnancy.  But, that does not mean people should allow their cats to get pregnant and then get them abortions.  That is just craziness.

I may be going to hell but I had a female cat aborted at the same time I had her fixed.

Generally they just spay the cat, much easier and less complications...

What exactly is spaying a cat? Do you mean they just yank out the uterus and the kitten fetuses come with it?

That's weird I never heard of that before but it does make sense with so many animals in the pound. I don't know if it would affect them or not. My SILs dog is a weirdo and had a false pregnancy (or something like one she got in her mind that she wanted to be pregnant) because she was around a male dog. My SIL new for a fact that he didn't "get her" (her words, lol) so it was just a mental thing.
