Does anyone know the difference between a laptop and a netbook?
A netbook does not have a CD/DVD drive. You would need to get an external one. My husband and I just got netbooks last month. I like them so much better than our laptops. They are so light and can do everything that our laptops did except for play CD/DVD's which we rarely do anyway. Netboooks are also cheaper. We got ours on sale for $250 each. We use ours to play online and to do school work. It is everything we could possibly need.
Netbooks are smaller. They are about the size of a portable DVD player. Mine is about 10 inches. Laptops are bigger. Normally at least 13 inches. Netbooks also don't have a CD drive. But, you can buy one to connect. They do still have USB ports. Mine also has a place for an SD card from a camera.

i had an hp netbook. i hated it, it was super slow. i dont know all the technical terms, but they dont have as much storage space or as much RAM (which is think it was determines how fast a computer is) IMO, it was a waste of money.
Do the netbooks come with the applications that a laptop would have? Like Word, Powerpoint, etc... or do you have to pay extra for that?

Most desktops and laptops come with Windows, but not Word or Excel or Powerpoint, etc. You have to buy all the Office programs seperately (at least that's been my experience.)
Mine did not come with any Microsoft programs such as Word or PowerPoint. I downloaded OpenOffice on mine. OpenOffice is free and is the same thing as the Microsoft programs. All of your word, powerpoint and excel documents will work with it. You can save your documents as Word, etc also if you need to send it to someone else who has the Microsoft programs.
I have a Toshiba and I love it. It does not have a CD drive, but I bought it with the intention of using it for a llimited amount of applications anyway so I really don't need one.
It is slower than a normal laptop, but it's not too bad. It has a smaller screen size, and there's a lot of scrolling through web-pages and emails that would normally show up fully on a regular sized screen.
It weighs about 2 lbs and fits in my purse. The start up time is really fast, and the video quality is pretty good.
I use it mainly for email, browsing the internet and managing some simple Microsoft Office documents. Mine came preloaded with a trial version of Office (25 uses or something like that); but it also came with Microsoft Works, which is almost identical package for the few documents I need.
It cost $399 but it has some extra features such as hard drive stabilization that I decided was important because I'm rough on my laptops. You can find them cheaper or on sale but I still feel I got a good deal.
