A "Real" Christmas Tree!

I'm so excited, my husband has finally consented to retiring the crappy twenty dollar fake tree, and has OK'ed a beautiful, live tree for the house. But I have a question for you mommas with more live tree experience.

He wanted to get it today. We're leaving for Thanksgiving and will be gone Wed thru Sun. I think it's supposed to be in the mid 70's here. No one will be here to water it while we're away. My mom is coming for all of next week, and we wanted to set it up before she came so it was our own personal family time.

Do you think it will die if we get it now though?

Thanks!!

I am not sure... I know there is some tree food stuff you can put in the water. Really though I have no idea. Hope someone else knows.

I think if I knew I was going to be gone that long I would not get it this weekend.

I WISH we could have a real tree. I have extremely fond memories of going Christmas tree hunting as a child with my family. But alas......my DH has severe asthma and allergies and my dd also has allergies and bless their hearts as much as we all love a real tree they make them miserable. So we had to invest in a fakey. Oh well......it's a nice one. LOL

I wouldn't get it now... we usually wait until like a week or 2 weeks into december and we go and cut our own

Maybe if you get a cut your own.

We always get a fresh tree, but we dont do it until the first week or two of december.

Home Depot and some other stores sell a watering thing.  Its a plastic box that "looks" like a present.  You fill it with water, put the little hose in the stand of the tree, and it waters for you.  All you have to do is fill the box like once a week.

That's what I was afraid of. Alright, I'll talk him into waiting. Perhaps I can get him to wait until my mom goes home. Thats only the first week of December after all.

I forgot about cutting them live. I remember we used to go to this farm when I was little, it was such a long drive. I'll have to see if there's one closer, that would be a cool experience.

Thanks to all of you! And I'm sorry to the poster who can't get one. If it's any consolation, I remember one year where spiders hatched in ours, lol. They were everywhere. Hmm... I don't think I'm going to share that story with DH... haha.
