I've always had a crappy immune system...and it just gets worse in the winter. I can't remember the last time my throat or sinuses didn't feel a little bad...I just had the flu last month and now I'm starting to feel sick again...stuffy nose, sore throat, cough, headache, light-headed, etc....
For those of you that don't get sick often, how do you keep yourself from getting sick? (This may be a dumb question, lol....some people I guess are just more prone to getting sick than others) My kids apparently have pretty good immune systems because I get sick all of the time and my 2 1/2 year old has been sick twice (and even then, we didn't need to go to the pediatrician) and my 14 month old has never been sick. She's still breastfeeding, so I don't know if that has a part in it or what.

I'm Kristina. I'm a married (to my high school sweetheart, Bobby), breastfeeding (and child-led weaning), co-sleeping, baby wearing, ERF, solid delaying, vegetarian (for over 16 years), vaccinating, disposable diapering, gentle disciplining, full-time college student, House MD loving, anorexia, self-injury and sexually abuse recovering, Fibromyalgia suffering SAHM to a handsome boy (Daniel Matthew 5.5.07) and my darling little boobie monster (Ryleigh Madison 9.13.08).

Vitamins and i also take an extra vitamin c , I work in a school with kids who are sick all the time and my daughter had h1n1 a few weeks ago and I didn't get it . Air borne is great also I use that every now and then .

I take extra vitamin C, like a glass of orange juice in the morning or at night. Also try to get some extra vitamin D. Whether it is in a form a pill or through the sun, not much sun here in the winter, find it helps a lot. I am rarely sick and if I do get a cold it only lasts a couple days.
I take Zinc (50mg) daily when I feel like I'm starting to get sick...

I take vitimans and eat lots of oranges in the winter season. I seem to still get sick pretty often tho.. but the oranges do help, when i feel a cold coming on I will eat a couple and it usually keeps me from getting sicker, and it shortens my cold it seems.

Local honey. Just take a spoon full, straight, don't mix it with hot tea or anything. Once a day.
Keep your house clean, but not sterile, a little bit of dirt will help you immune system!
Get enough sleep. Give yourself time to rest.
Maybe that's what's wrong with me....I've been an insomniac since I was about 8. Took meds for a really long time for it and they never really helped. I have fibromyalgia and it's very hard to get a 'full-nights-rest.' I probably get about 2hrs a night...if I'm lucky. And it's not consecutive hours of sleep either.
My house is pretty clean. It's not sterile, that's for sure, lol. (Well, maybe my bathrooms and kitchen, lol).
Just like, real honey? That you buy at a grocery store? Because we have some of that and I might just drink the whole bottle, lol.

My DH takes a lot of Vitamin C (he bought a huge bottle of them at GNC a while ago) and I'd always laugh whenever he took 'em...but maybe I should take them too. I don't take vitamins either....and I guess I really should (especially because I'm still breastfeeding).
Thanks for all the suggestions. I should go pop a few vit. C pills.

Ugh, when I get sick...it lasts for months. Like, I just got over the flu about a week ago and I got it at the beginning of last month. It's crazy. The sickness just lingers and lingers...for what seems like forever.

But, the few times I do get sick, I really get sick!
