Morning routine...

Just curious...what's your morning routine with your kids after they wake up?

  • We take Aralyn out of her crib and play with her for a short bit.
  • Change her.
  • Feed her.
  • Turn on cartoons (which she either watches or runs around playing - with or without me)
  • After a while of playing she'll get a snack before her noon nap.

Obviously this isn't EVERY single day. Some days we go to the store. Some days we spend time with my friend and her daughter...but, this is our general routine if we're home.

This is all before her afternoon nap, by the way.

The night before we:

  • Check the calendar for stuff like "wear red day", gym class, "bring a pumpkin in" whatever...  Check the weather too...
  • Choose outfits and lay them out
  • Pack backpacks with homework, folders, glasses, etc.
  • Make sure appropriate shoes, jackets, hats, mittens, etc are waiting by the door with their backpacks
  • Set the table for breakfast and put out the cereal
  • Pack their lunches/snacks and stash in the fridge

In the morning:

  • DH gets up at 5:30 and leaves for work (he does this to avoid rush hour traffic - his ride is an hour with NO traffic and two hours if he's late...)
  • My alarm goes off about 7:00 - I get up around 7:30.
  • I wake up all three kids with a hug and directions...
  • I jump in the shower and while I'm in there:
  • The kids get dressed, brush their hair and teeth, and hopefully make their beds as best they can.  Their dirty jammies go in the hamper and they bring their water cups downstairs.
  • As I get out of the shower (and start to dress, do my hair, etc.) I remind them of the time, and encourage them to eat...
  • By the time I get downstairs they're finishing up their breakfasts.  I make myself some tea, move their lunchboxes into their bags.
  • We all throw on shoes and jackets, I grab my yogurt (aka car breakfast) and we're out the door at 8:20-8:30.
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays I drop my 3yo off at preschool first, at 8:30, then go up the street and drop my 2nd grader in her car line at 8:45, then DS and I hang in the car in the parking lot and read together or listen to music while I eat my breakfast and we cuddle.  His car line starts at the same school at 9:10.

Most days I'm out all morning - music class Mondays with my 3yo, appointments and errands Tuesdays and Thursdays, and volunteering Wednesdays and Fridays.  I don't get home until I've picked up my 3yo from preschool and my son from morning kindergarten.  When I get home I tackle the laundry, empty the dishwasher from last night's dinner run, and deal with all the breakfast dishes, while getting lunch on the table.

It's a hectic life...  LOL.

Peace,

Kat

Wow, very hectic. But seems like you have a very nice, stable routine with your kids.

HA It doesn't always runs smoothly...   If the kids goof off while I'm in the shower there's no one there telling them not to, so ... yeah that happens.  ;-)

The beds don't always get made, and a couple of times they've been given "breakfast" (bar and a cheese stick) in the car, but so far they have not been late for school at ALL this year.  And I'm kinda proud of that.  Last year I got a lot of help from DH and that was with only two in school.  This year it's more work, less parents...  so it's a work in progress.  LOL

Well, I figured it didn't run smoothly EVERY time. Nothing ever does in life. lol

But, I do like the routine you have.
