should mentally disabled people be allowed to have children? can an abortion be forced onto them?
before I put in my two cents I wanted to know how everyone else thinks....
should the mentally disabled have full control over their reproductive rights? or should the caretaker get the final say?

Depends on the mental handi cap. PP I love that movie and I agree it does give a completley new perspective. However I do not feel in anyway shape or form unless haveing that baby is life threatning should an abortion be FORCED because they are mentaly handicaped. To me that is just moraly wrong.

Well my 21 year old sister has Aspergers and acts like a 13 year old most of the time especially around boys and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl in June and everyone was telling my mom to make her give up the baby because my sister wouldn't be able to take care of her but so far she is a wonderful mother and I am so proud of her. I think it really depends on the situation but people should be given a chance.

This is just too hard to answer
1. There are different levels of mental handicap (you should watch The Other Sister)
2. People should not be forced into abortion. Especially someone that has a mental handicap because it's hard enough on women that have all their nuts in a row. The emotional problems that they go through after something like that is horrible. Imagine how bad it would be on someone who doesn't quite have the mental capacity to handle that.
"We're all mad here" Alice in Wonderland
If you are mentally incapable of functioning at a level that would make it safe for a child to be in you care then no. It is a slippery slope and a fine line. Every one is different. Take my brother for instance. Him and his wife are both mentally handicapped. They can function but are both on disability because they can't work due to their disabilities. They have three children. They abuse and neglect those kids. I called CPS on them and nothing was done. They are capable of taking care of themselves but they have very little impulse control and it's reflected in their interactions with their children. I don't think they should be parents but isn't it their right to have them? It's a touchy topic with alot of grey area. What makes a good parent and what type of person is incapable of being a good parent?
My SO has Cerebral palsy and walks with two sticks. If someone were to come up and tell me that shouldnt have kids with him because of his syndrome i would want to punch them...
Well considering I think abortion is vile and disgusting murder, no I don't think abortions should be forced on mentally disabled people. Do I think mentally disabled people should have children? I don't think anyone should have children if they can't safely take care of them whether they are disabled or not.
