How long did it take your soldier to travel when coming home for R&R from Iraq?  My stomach is in knots and I can't take my mind off of it.  God, this is the worst and best feeling in the world!!

  • 3 days to 1 week. It's dependent on how many folks are leaving on the same day. If they don't have enough for a plane load, they'll stay for a bit longer. And sometimes there's a long layover in Germany or Ireland, up to 24hrs. Don't worry, he'll call you when he hits Atlanta or Dallas so you can be at the right airport to collect him.

  • My cousin just arrived from Afghanistan (Thursday). On Monday's they is no flights flying out of Kuwait. When he started flying on Tuesday he was home on Thursday. He had a choice to fly in Atlanta GA or Texas. He picked Atlanta. His movement did start the weekend before (as getting him back into town or closer to a bigger city)

We all have hero's or look up to someone. I look up to my younger cousin, he is my hero! While we sit in AC, he FIGHTS for our freedom. When I eat a hot dinner, take a shower, and crawl into my bed, he's wondering when he gets a break or when he can take off his 100 lb back pack. While many of us don't support the war, we can support our troops. Please pray for all of our men and women serving our country.

My cousin Shawn has been fighting in Afghanistan since July 2009

  • It really depends on alot of things. How fast they get thru the R&R briefing, how long layovers are, random delays at the airport... when my husband came home on R&R he was almost a week early. That was sooo nice. They didn't count that as part of his leave so we got an extra week together. :)  He'll be home soon. Just enjoy every minute of it b.c it will be over WAY to soon.

  • The last time I talked to him he gave me the expected flight time off his base, but haven't heard from him since so I don't know if he left on time or late or early or what.  But from my estimates he has been treaveling for 2 days now and I know he will be flying in Atlanta....This really is enough to drive you crazy!  I haven't seen him in 7 months so I feel like I'm gonna throw up any min! LOL

  • LMAO! Okay, ignore the Soldier who has been deployed before and knows exactly how long it takes and exactly how it goes. Whatever. Deuces.
