Don't have $$, but have kids...what about your tax return?

I know this will not be a blanket to cover all people.

BUT.

I can't think of a single family I know of that has at least 1 person working, they 'don't have a lot of money' and they have at least ONE kid...that doesn't get back THOUSANDS in tax dollars.

SO...when you 'don't have money' what DO you do with your THOUSANDS in tax refund? Where does it go? Do you just blow it? Do you use it for the future (bills, next Christmax, etc.)?

If you have such a hard time making ends meet during the year why don't you claim more so you dont' get a huge tax return...and then you wouldn't have to scrape during the year?

Like I said...I know this wouldn't work for everyone, I was just wondering.

Well, we don't get back THOUSANDS, but we do get a couple thousand. We don't have a lot of money throughout the year, but enough to pay our bills and have a little fun. We usually pay ahead a couple of bills, pay for our daughter's birthday and presents, and save the rest for our annual family vacation. (We usually have to put more into it, but it gets us started on our vacatino fund each year).

All the people i know who are broke, when they get their tax return back they blow it.

They originally have plans to get an apartment or car etc, but i never see them actually do that.

Im not really broke but im not like rich but when i get mine back it just goes in the bank, I'm usually a little more generous at christmas time becuase i figure ill be getting most of it back at tax time.

I have never gotten a refund. EVER. But i don't see how it can be considered a refund when the majority get back way more than they have ever paid in. If anything its a paycheck from the government; not a refund.

But, i think most people pay off bills, repair cars, get the things that they need to get, new fridge, new stove, ect. I really don't think many people blow the money.

We're not broke, but we do get a few thousand back in taxes every year for one reason only.  Half of my salary is bonuses and they are taxed at a higher rate.  So we pay quite a bit of taxes every year, but we over pay them by usually $3,000 - $4,000 or so. It isn't earned income credit.

Usually we will buy something that we normally wouldn't buy and stick the rest into the bank.  This year, we'll buy a new refrigerator.  Fun!

I work, my husband works we both have, and on average we would get back about 700 a year and we have one KID.

it wasn't until we bought our house and get a tax break on the interest that we get back more.

The only way you get thousands is if you qualify for EIC or other things. Not everyone does. Some of us actually make money for a living in accordance to our family size.

and I have "little money" my house is heated, my kid is fed, I work hard for al lthat I have, I dont go on spending sprees, i've lived here almost 3 years and I dont even have a freaking dining room set or end tables.

My husband and I do not make a lot of money but we can pay our bills. I calculated it and if neither one of us had any tax money taken out of our paychecks, we would still be getting money bck because of our daughter and because of our income. With our income taxes we pay off a few months of rent as well as debt. This year since I sdo not have much debt left, I will be saving half of the money. The "thousands" that we get back are not necessarily all federal taxes. I have had less than 1000 taken out this year because I wanted more money per pay. The money we're getting back are credits for daycare and the income tax credit, things of that nature. Now I know there are people who are REALLY struggling and get much more than me each year, but I cannot speak for them. I just know we do okay during the year and then pay off important bills with our money.

We both have claim dependants and we still get a few thousand in a tax return. The thing is we don't claim the EIC during the year. And then on top of that we get the child tax credit.

What do we do with the money? This year we will be buying a vehicle and a bed for our youngest. Last year we paid off some bills, bought us & our 2 oldest beds, a couch, recliner, and clothes. We actually have our next 3 tax refunds planned for....

who do you know that gets back MORE then they paid in during the year in taxes??  lol I WISH!!!!!   We don't make alot of money, but we cover our expenses throughout the year and have a little extra along the way usually.  When we get (if we get) a refund we use it to pay off any debts we may have and bank the rest for a rainy day.   We never BLOW money anymore!  HAHAHA the past 3 years have taught me better then that with all the layoffs we have gone through... never know what will happen down the road!  My dad has a very good salary and they usually end up having to pay in alot more when they file.

We use it to catch up on things that have had to wait...such as minor house repairs, clothing items we've been needing, stocking the deep freeze, etc...We are smart about our refund.  Yes we could change our deductions, but we like to look at our refund as a way to save.  No matter how much money we have coming in, we always push the limits.  So at least this way we have a large sum at once coming.  Also, we do not, nor have we ever been able to get the EIC...dang it!!! UGH!
