Yet Another Car Seat Question

Okay so my dd is 4 months old and we had a infant carrier for her, but she was uncomfortable in it for some reason and hated being in the carseat.-Well we had recieved two convertible carseats from our baby shower that was made for 5 lbs-65 lbs so we went ahead and installed them in both of our cars.

My question is for all the car seat experts:

Where should the straps begin? I remember reading a post about it somewhere but I can't find it now. For rear facing should the straps be below her shoulders, at, or above? She doesn't look right when we put her in it because I'm concerned about how she should be sitting. Also, there is an infant insert made for newborns and it doesn't say a specific age when that insert should be removed? She is 15 lbs, 25 inches long if that helps.

I have been reading the instruction book and I'm not really seeing anything about that in it.

Thanks for any answers.

The straps should be at or below the shoulders for RF :)  Join the car seat safety group for the rest of the info.  The techs know EVERYTHING LOL.

The straps need to be at or below her shoulders rearfacing. For some reason a lot of kids don't lik infant carriers but do great in convertibles. As far as the infant insert is concerned that is up to you. If she fits the seat without it go ahead and remove it. If she still needs the extra support leave it in. Usually by about 6 mnths old you can take it out. If you want to post a picture of her to make sure she is in right feel free we will be happy to look at it and see your cutey.

I will probably post one soon, I don't have any yet with her in the carseat. Yeah I think I'll just leave the insert in now. The straps seem to be really low, and that's why I was asking. It kind of looks like it started at or above her armpits instead of her shoulders so I will definitely get that fixed. Thanks so much, we just now started using it and I just didn't feel right about it. =]

Thanks for the quick replies!

I would go ahead and try the slot above, remember she is going to slouch down in the seat a little bit. Its better to have them too low than two high.

This is her in her carseat

her head looks like its scrunching up in the picture but the straps are now level with her shoulders. does it need to go down anymore?

Aww what a cutey. I love that pattern. If they are at her shoulders she is fine. Remember the chest clip needs to be level with her armpits it looks a little low. Also I would remove the after market strap covers, they void your seats warranty and could interfer with straps performance. Usual rule of thumb is if it didn'y come with the seat its not safe to use.

yeah i noticed the strap buckle after i took the picture. we use the covers because her neck gets irritated so easily. so we shouldn't use anything? i didn't know that. well thanks for the quick response!

AWWW she is such a cutie and thats a great seat...you do need to take the pads off the straps, they are NOT safe to use.  That will mean the chest clip can be in the correct place even with her armpits.  Does the crotch strap move back?  if it does move it back a bit it looks very far forward.

After you remove the strap covers it will be MUCH easier to see if the straps are int he right place...

Usually the Myride comes with covers?  Did your not??  There shoudl've been brown and pink ones, those are safe to sue because they were tested with the seat!
