for christmas this year my kids arent getting any gifts. niether me or dh have jobs at this time we have been searching for a long time too. anyways what are some ideas that we can do on thanksgiving that we can do together as a family at home on christmas. im really depressed that we arent going to be able to do gifts this year so i wanna find a way to make it up to them

If neither of you have jobs, you probably get food stamps.. so I'm going to suggest that you make some homemade gifts with food products. How are you paying your bills, getting gas in the car, etc? Whatever you're using for those things, put a few bucks back and get your kids something. Look into the "Shop with a cop" program. It might be too late, but it's worth a shot.
Nobody is so broke that they can't do SOMETHING for their kids at Christmas time. We have been prettttttty broke in previous years and we survived. I wish you the best of luck.

i wish we could but those $20 need to be put in gas in the car to take dd to school and ds to therapy. dh was getting unemployment but he just stopped 3 weeks ago and my phone is getting disconnected tonight at midnight, thankfully i paid our electricity, rent and water bill with the last check we got. my mil said she would help us pay our bills till we can find a job, she even offered to watch the kids for us once we get a job. im just getting really depressed about this whole money situation.
we will be going to midnight mass and making homeade cookies and christmas ornaments. but i know there has to be more that we can do on that day.

Can you find a church or something? I mean my dh hands out toys for his friends church a few days before Christmas. Or maybe you can make things, or even write each other letters or something. SO that way you can at least get some toys, also when I was a kids my mom would go to salvation army and they would give up brand new toys. Honesty many Christmases we didn't have toys that is so not what Christmas is about. You kids will be okay, we had plenty of Christmases with no toys, or my parents could only get the babies toys, It happened and its not the end of the world. Sorry you are having a hard time we actually had a Christmas like that while waiting for dh to get his job, except we had tons of credit so we finally used those cards, we are just about to finish paying off a Christmas like three years ago. I will never do that again, my kids would have been okay without toys, even now they would be okay without a bunch of toy. Dont feel bad you are doing the best you can, and sometimes thhings like that happend your kids will be just fine I think in most times we feel worst than that kid ever do.

I think it would be cool to make homemade things and just celebrate the fact the family is together. I had some bare christmases growing up and i survived. It helps a child appreciate the holidays in which they do receive gifts. Do you go to any churches? Sometimes the congregation will sponsor a family to help them out around holidays also.

I'm sure your MIL is not going to let her grandkids go without. :) And you can take $5 from each time you fill up gas and not fill up QUITE all the way.. then use that for presents.
