A friends nephew is 17 I believe and is a chronic thief. The boys parents are in denial about it pretty much and just ignore what family members say about it. He steals from family, friends, etc etc. This past summer while working in a factory, he had four fingers cut off by a machine. Ya, he can still steal, but do you believe it was some kind of payback/karma for being a thief? Some say yes, some say no. What do you think?

I think whatever it is, being punished for life for sins as a child is never reasonable or fair!
What about if he was 18? Now that I think about it, I beleive he turned 18 this past spring before the accident happened.
I don't know a whole lot of men that start behaving like adults until they're 25 or so, so I stand by my first statement!
Karma or not its tragic....Love and Healing Light to him....

I voted "other" because, well, IDK if it really has anything to do with it. Karma, to me, would be if he got things stolen from him.
No.....i dont think its karma at all! Other people steal all the time and they still have their hands and fingers.....if that was the case then people that are liars would lose their voice.....and I know lots of liars and they can still speak and continue to lie! I just think it was something that just happened to him...... yeah of course to teach him a lesson, but what if he doesnt look at it that way and still conitnues to steal.....regardless of his accident!
I sure hope that it wasn't karma. Either way, I usually hate when such horrible things happen to people. While I do hope that he stops stealing, I think that he could've gotten the message some other way than to have to lose his fingers, kwim? Anyway, that's really tragic and unfortunate for him.

I think you're operating on the premise that Karma is cookie-cutter. Karma isn't about a set catalogue of punishable offenses and their one and only counter reaction. Not everyone who steals looses their fingers because not EVERYone who steals needs to learn THAT specific lesson as a result.
Maybe this young man will grow to take less for granted, something he wasn't considering when he was pilfering his way through the family and community. Someone else who steals may not need to learn that same lesson, or may benefit from learning it a different way.
