My mom revealed to us the other day that she is aware she makes a better grandmother than she did a mother. And then began to tell us all kinds of "mistakes" she made. Now that we are all healthy, happy adults it was HYSTERICAL. My favorite was that my oldest brother had an imaginary friend. He was 6 and my mom would not "let" it go to school with him because she was embarrassed. Yes, his imaginary friend was homeschooled. Anyway, one day Jeff came home from school and asked to see his friend. My mom said she was very sorry, but did not see him sitting on the floor. She told him that she tripped over his imaginary friend and killed him by mistake.
SHE KILLED my brother's imaginary friend! I have NEVER laughed so hard in my life. Of course, had my brother grown up to be a criminal, it would not be nearly as amusing. Jeff said he didn't even remember this happening.
So. The question is - when your kids are grown, what have you done that you hope they laugh at? What parenting fails have you made?
I have had MANY MANY of these same conversations with my own mother... HAHA!! But since my son is only 15 months old I haven't done MUCH to him but we often joke about what he's going to tell his therpist about...
*He always stands right UNDER my feet so I trip over him a lot and have often accidentally spilled things (drinks, a bowl of cereal) on his head :o
*His bestfriend is the family dog... he does EVERYTHING with her... or he throws temper tantrums! He climbs into the bath tub when we are bathing her... eats out of her food dish (ew!) and shares his cups with her! (DOUBLE EW!)
*He has a weird love for pens and pencils and this mean ol' mommy won't let him walk around with them in his hands (that whole falling down and poking his eye out kinda scares me)
Not too much yet but get back to me in another year or so!!
I'm a young (but strict) independent Mommy of one (so far). I firmly believe in CIO, front facing, semi-vaccinating, ocassional spanking/time-outs, tough love! Nothing irritates this Mommy more than immature little girls wanting a baby so badly then NOT TAKING CARE OF THEIR OWN! You give us "Young Momma's" a bad name- and we don't deserve it.
