Actually, I think its some kind of vole or mole. There's not much of a tail and its black. I don't want to kill it but I want it gone! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated... the sooner the better!

Use a live trap and let it go far far away. I got my dh to catch ours with his hands because he wanted to kill it and I wanted to keep it. I went out and bought a cage and food and everything for it. We had it for quite a while.
