Ok I have a question and it is just that... a question.

If someone was depressed (clinically proven) and/or diagnosed with social anxiety disorder with daily or almost daily panic attacks, would they be able to collect benefits? By benefits I mean like SSI, or something.

Also would they have to have a doctor's letter or something, how does this all work?

Oh and is it true that a parent can collect SSI if their child just has ADHD,and dyslexia?

(The first question popped in my head because of something I read off MSN, the second question was because a friend of mine collects on her son and I was wondering if she was messing with me or you really could collect.)

And remember please no bashing these are just questions... no harm no foul.

I'm sure you could. I know people who collect for being bipolar.

I am not a huge proponent of people getting disability for mild to moderate mental illness which most panic/depressive disorders fall under.  I guess you may qualify if you can prove you can't function at all.

I was on SSI for awhile because when I graduated hs I couldn't work (long story..). It was all from mental issues. Although I think some of the things kids are put on SSI for are a little ridiculous. My friend was told to apply for SSI for her three year old because the little girl had a speech delay.. I don't understand that one. She'll catch up eventually! Bottom line is, it's supposed to be for those who can't work. Some people's mental disorders can be that bad.
