When I worked in cosmetics women used to come in all the time and buy a jar of Cholesterol. They said it worked great for headlice! I had a few co workers try it and they said it worked. It's supposed to get the eggs out really easy. And anything dead just slides out with a comb. Good Luck!

R.I.P. Daddy...miss you 9/7/09
I've heard of the robi comb, heard it's real good. I home school do for us to get lice is more rare then if they were in public school , so we haven't had the experience to say for a fact the robi comb is good . I just know that some school nurses use it at the schools.

Olive oil.
Coat the hair with it , let it soak...it kills the live ones and makes the eggs slip off alot easier.
Comb through the hair, get the nits out , wash the hair and voila!.
The natural shampoo they are advertising works better than the shampoo that has the killing agent in it.
I feel for you. We had an infestation last year the week before Christmas and it was truly a nightmare. I had it because my 4 year old had it and we co slept at the time. Can you imagine? 34 and having head lice for the first time? UGH! You know you got a guy that loves you when he's picking head lice off your hair with a comb.
My sister and her kid were babysitting next door and picked it up at that house. So the kid of hers wasn't even a year yet and had lice. We treated him with the medicatde shampoo and he had a severe allergic reaction to it and had to be rushed to the hospital. He looked like a mutant and poor thing felt like one too.
My niece had it cause my sis took her babysitting with her too. We had 5 heads full of lice and a house full of little critters and all during Christmas holiday I was spraying and washing and house cleaning like a damn mad woman.
It is actually funny now, but then I was a mad woman. Best of luck
thanks ladies.. my son has been out of school a week already and i found another live one this morning so i know i am looking at another week at home again.... like i need another reason for the school but be up my butt :0(
Use flea shampoo! It has the same ingredients as lice shampoo but its cheaper and works better :) I've used it on my SO's daughter when her mother sent her to our house with more head lice than I've ever seen on 1 person....

any mommies have some remedies for lead lice?????
please help!!!!!!
My DD picked it up at a Halloween party this year. This what I did and I never saw another live lice after the first day.
First in my research of the best over the counter shampoo I discovered that in some areas of the country the lice have evolved to be immune to the shampoos. So I found this recipe and it worked. Mix 3 parts mayo to one part white vinegar, with about 10 drops of tea tree oil. It should be the consistency of cake batter. Apply to the hair of everyone in the house hold and cover with shower caps for 4-6 hours. Wash out with dawn dish liquid. Spray hair with white vinegar and use nit comb.
Wash the hair of every family member every other day with cat shampoo that kills lice for 14 days. I think the stuff I got was hertz. I got it at wal mart and it is purple. I used it on everyone but the baby and no one had a bad reaction. I think this was the key thing, my DD who is the only one who actually had lice used it every day for two weeks just cause she was grossed out at the thought of having lice. She's 14. I think this works because it is killing the little buggers as they hatch.
Wash everything cloth in the household, including clean clothing. What can't be washed vacuum seal in trash bags for 2 weeks. To do this fill a trash bag about 1/2 way full. Stick the hose of your vacuum in the top of the bag and use your hand to gather the top of the bag tightly around the hose. Turn on the vacuum and suck the air out until you can't any more. Twist the top of the bag and tie tightly. Any thing you can't wash but need right away, such as pillows, spray with white vinegar with a few drops of tea tree oil in it and put in the dryer on hot for at least 20 minutes, the item must be hot for 20 minutes.
Vacuum all upolstery and carpets. Spary it with that vinegar, tea tree oil solution first. Don't forget under furniture, in closets and around baseboards. Make sure you get every inch of carpet. Make sure to bag up the vacuum bag or the contents of the canister in zip lock bags.
Don't forget to wash the pets, get the shampoo that says for fleas, ticks, and lice.
