Okay, so here's the deal, I have to vent or I'm gonna explode. I had requested the 27th (black friday) off 2 months ago, 2 months!

I got written off work until the 26th by a doctor due to having the flu, okay I followed procedure, called work, blah, blah, blah. Asked my supervisor to please not forget about me wanting BF off, but that I'd be willing to come in at 1:30 and just have the morning off. She agreed that was fine. (she agreed to this on Thursday)

Well, Saturday comes, I call to check on the clients (home health aide) I get the cold shoulder and am treated extremely rude by both co-workers I talk to, including my boss. So, I ask how her nephews b-day party went, she said she didn't get to go cause she had to wait on someone...etc. Well, I hang up and tell DH, they are pissed at me for being SICK, how nice! I said, watch and see, I'll be punished for being SICK, I guarantee it!

So, I call Sunday to get my schedule and I HAVE TO WORK BLACK FRIDAY and am not even on the schedule on Thanksgiving. Of course, I asked about it, and of course "there is nothing that can be done" I'm not stupid, I know I'm being punished for getting sick and it's absolutely stupid! So, now I can't go, and if I can't go, my sister can't go, and she was going to get presents for my nephews too.

Ugh, I'm so PISSED!

While it isn't your fault you are sick, it isn't thiers either.. and while you were out sick.. other people had to cover your shifts... so how fair is it that you should get MORE time off, and they don't?

It's amazing how people don't hold themselves to the standards they set for others.

It's not your fault that you've been sick. However, in all honesty, it might make you look a little better as an employee if you opt to work on Friday. You can shop another time.

I WOULD talk with my supervisor about the attitudes you've been dealing with. Even if they are upset, they really didn't have the right to be so rude about it.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Well, since jobs are not easy to come by.... go to work.  Some of the stores are open at 4 am.  Go then.

Also, don't call in sick anymore.  Just go in sick and cough on everyone.  Problem solved.

It stinks that you were sick...but I would think that being out for a period of time and having others cover your shifts...exempts them from the promise to give you the time off. Especially since the time off happens immediately after you return.

If they had to work and ask other people to cover your sickness, it would be unfair for those same workers who pulled through to cover your sickness to then still let you have choice days off. You aren't the only worker there I am sure.

And as for the other poster who said "dont go in, she already agreed nothing she can do"

Have you ever HAD a job? LOL if you are given a schedule to work, no matter whatever prior verbal agreements, and you dont show up.

Grounds for firing.

In this economy be thankful you have a job to goto on black friday.

and as the other poster said a lot of stores open very early.. some even do Thanksgiving day specials.
