my dd (5) kept crying this morning. The city sewer main in front of my house backed up yesterday into my basement so the insurance people sent out a cleaning crew and they had to remove all contaminated (anything that got wet, so everything from both the kids' bedrooms and my bedroom, my laundry room, their playroom, and my storage room) We had to sleep upstairs, her on our living room couch, my son and I slept on an airmattress in the living room. She had to watch most of her posessions (and mine and her brothers) be taken away to either be cleaned or gotten rid of. She is an emotional child so it really hit her wrong, plus they have these fans and water pumps running in the basement and they made so much noise plus the interuption in our routine and it was midnight when the kids finally fell asleep. I had to take her to school and explain to her teacher what was going on so she knew why my dd may be emotional, tired, and cranky today. The cleaning crew is back right now to finish ripping out all our carpet and padding and they are cutting the bottom half of sheetrock off all our walls. The only plus is there are only 2 days of school this week, but it still stinks!
I know how you feel. When hurricane Ike came The water was all the way up to the ceiling in our house. Most of the house looks like a skeleton when we got home and our possesions washed miles away...My little girls things ruined and caked in mud . It was just messed up. no sheet rock anywhere its just sick. The house is in the process of being rebuilt now. it took over six monthes for the insurance people to get out there. Because we obviously were not the only ones who lost a home out of 3000 homes in the area (most of them are brand new homes) only 14 were standing at the end of it all. A price to pay for living so close to the water.

awww I'm so sorry you're going through this! That is really terrible and your poor little girl having to watch all her stuff being tossed :( I would be a wreck too..
Awww I feel so bad for your little girl. I hope she feels better soon. I know that it must be tough for a little girl to be in her position.

Quoting myfoursonsks:
Ugghhh...what a disaster! I am sure it has been tough on everyone. I am hoping the city is covering it and not your insurance company. Are they going to cover all your belongings too?
Not sure who is paying for it yet. We talked to a city guy yesterday (the one who came out to pump the sewer and check the water and he said as long as the city can prove they clean the pipes they are not responsible. Our home owners insurance said because it was the city main it was the city's fault and they should pay because they only cover the pipes that come straight to the house, not the main, so currently waiting to hear back from the city and we have no clue who is paying for it, other than our home owner's insurance definately won't. It's a mess.
