Some friends of ours are going to Tahiti for Christmas, and leaving their 3 year old at home with his uncle who also lives with them. The mom asked if I could babysit him during the days while they are on vacation, and when she told me the dates they were leaving I was like, "omg he's gonna be alone for Christmas!" I felt kinda bad for him...on the other hand I think its awesome they can take a trip like that. It got me thinking about whether I'd ever want a kid-free for Christmas so I thought I'd see what you all thought....

Christmas with your kids/family, or take an awesome trip with your hubs/SO?

How horribly selfish of them. wow, I hope the child's uncle can give the kid a good christmas. I would NEVER willingly be away from my young child at Christmas.

I would be with my kids. The trip could have been scheduled for a different time.

I could never spend Christmas away from my kids. But that's just me. Christmas is my favorite time of year and I love making it special. I also feel like it's a time for family. I would ask my hubby to schedule the trip for over New Year's or maybe a little later.

I have way more fun with my kids on any holiday... I feel like it's really for them anyway :)

Christmas is such a BIG family time for me so I'd rather be with my kids than go on a trip.

yeah see that's what i'm torn about. on the one hand its nice to be able to get away with your SO, but on the other hand Christmas and kids just go together lol, like i'd feel incomplete or something if i wasn't with my daughter at christmas. maybe i'm just feeling this way because i know how little time they spend with their kid in the first place (who is actually 4, he just had a bday, excuse the typo)

i try not to judge other people but this just made me really sad for him and i wanted to see how others felt

Do they celebrate Christmas?  If so, I think they are being horrible, selfish people and I feel SOOO sorry for that child!!

To answer your question:  I would NEVER willingly be apart from my children on Christmas.  NEVER.
