I think they both, pretty much heat the same.  I've always had electric, but know people who have gas.  Do you have a problem with gas?

My sister just bought a house that was wired for a gas dryer so she bought a new one, she said it dries her clothes in half the time

Unless there are also hook-ups for an electric dryer yes you will have to buy/borrow/rent a gas dryer.  I personally like them better, they seem to dry clothes faster but I don't know they are any better than an electric one.  Just because the house has gas does not mean it is equiped for a gas dryer though,  be sure and ask your agent or the person you are renting from.  It could just mean you have gas heat.

If there is gas hookup for the dryer than buy a gas dryer.  Ask the sales rep to help you at the store.  Are you buying or renting this home?  If you are renting, ask your landlord about it, if you are unsure on the type of dryer you can have.  Good luck!
