DS can open the cabinents, the fridge and drawers, despite the child safety locks on them. He FIGURED out how to open them.

He can also take the plugs out of the electrical sockets.

He is so his father's (a mechanic) son.

He loves to figure out how to take stuff apart and how it works.

Are there any better locks that I can get, especially for the kitchen cabinents? I don't want him getting into the cleaning supplies!

Right now we have the ones that hook onto a plastic stopper for our cabinents.

You have a boy and that's what boys do! 99% of them! lol

I had to put things up high, like cleaning supplies on top of the fridge, locked up in a locked box my medicines. You have to teach them about light sockets, be consistent. Gates work well up until a certain age.

p.s daily for months my son wanted to take apart the remote control and "look at the batteries" instead of fighting him on it, I allowed him to do it  and watched him daily. He just was curious to see how it worked, so I let him ask questions, I also let him take apart the phone, but he has to put it back together and I sit there and let him ask questions about how it works. It doesn't ruin anything, it's kind of funny how their little brains work.

p.s.s. I bought lots of door locks and installed them on rooms I didn't want him to go into, and closet doors, and installed them up high. He's older now, so he listens, but it was a problem for about a year. Now he naturally stays out of closets and bathrooms and my bedroom and so on.

That sounds totally normal for a small boy.

The magnetic cabinet locks are nice, you have to hold a magnet over them to get the door to open.  Alo, up high is always good- but right now the cleaners in the house (even up high) are the non-toxic ones and the heavy duty ones are all out in the garage or up high in the laundry room in a locked cabinet.

Lol, thanks for your advice!

He is only 15 months old! I am afraid that when he is two I am going to come home to a room full of TV pieces lined up on the floor.

DS also figured out how to get the batteries out of the remote, by throwing it on the floor. Now I have tape over the back!

That is sweet of you to not get frustrated and to explain it to him!

maybe try relocating the cleaning supplies? if he can open pretty much any lock, he may figure out the next one too....like building a better mouse trap, lol.

Oh another mom suggested that!

I will look into them too.

I wish we had more room, but I have a total of six (literally, six) cabinents in our apartment to store things in. ::sigh::

If you have an outdoor storage on your balcony, you can put a shelf in there to store, or store above your closet for now, it won't last forever. Put furniture in front of his outlets in his room and away from windows or blinds.

I use tot locks on my cabinets.  They are magnets and have yet to yield to the power of three three year olds pulling on them with all their might!
