If i'm giving birth in a hospital....how much am I in charge of my birth plan? Can they tell me things that they won't change and if i don't like it they can tell me that they can't deliver the baby? Kind of like when you try to be totally in charge of your own medical care when your sick in the hospital?

I just don't want PREVENTITIVE care....and i've learned that this hospital does a LOT of it.....like trying to give everyone who stays in the hospital a blood thinner 'just because'...and putting an IV in my arm for 3 days when they didn't even put anything through it. (I have no issues with needles...I just thought it was kind of pointless...) I don't want the baby getting a whole bunch of preventitive stuff it doesn't need either. That said, conventional medicine I don't have an issue with...but like to look into things...especially things that are not going into me personally.

So my first question is...what is common and necessary (I would say considered necessary to the type of mom's who choose to vax weather it be regular or delayed...I will probably be one of those delayed vaxing people). I have heard that the vitamin K shot is when you are getting your child circumsized. I have abolutely no issues with blood work being taken. What else is commonly given to newborns? When your the mom doing this, what would be a medicine they give you afterwords that could be preventitive? Would most woman TAKE a blood thinner after giving birth to help with some sort of recovery process? Whats common?

I would like to TRY to go natural

I would like to be able to play music

I would like an episiotimy if nesessary-i do not want to tear again

I DO NOT want medical intervention (vaccum, forceps, or c-sec.) unless absolutly medically nesessary

*these are just the main things so far..im still adding*

i am so against the whole c-section thing....maybe you have some answers on this I don't (or someone else does). They say they only do c-sections when they are medically necessary...but i don't believe this is true...there are just way too many of them done a year. So, if I stress that I do not want c-section...how do I make sure I still don't end up being one of those people who didn't REALLY need one?

I can't remember specifics, and I don't even remember having a blood thinner (I can't even remember if I had an iV to be honest.  But discuss your birth plan with your doctor first.  He or she will let you know if its doable or not, however there are no guarantees.  Mine approved my birthplan (except for a couple of things), but once I went into the hospital and was in labor, most of it got ignored, and since I was in so much pain at the time, I didn't even care.

BUMP, I never had a birth plan. I just went with it.

I ended up being induced, getting cut twice, tearing a 3rd degree, forceps used twice with no success, and a vac. I almost have a emergency c section. Everything I wanted to happen didnt. I didnt even produce milk. I'm just glad my baby girl made it, They had to revive her because she wasnt breathing.

Good luck hun! and BUMPPPAAAHHHDEEEE BUMMP!!

from what I understand you are 100% completely in charge of your birth. Talk to your OB about what you want and don't want.

I would automatically be given blood thinners (and be on them my entire pregnancy, if I ever get pregnant again) because I have a very deadly clotting disorder.  But I can't imagine them giving you blood thinners "just because."

you kinda have to do some research...

find out what the fetal heart rate should be, find out how long they wait for labor to progress naturally before administering pitocin (or other labour inducing medications) in this country and others, start looking at ways the baby could come out (breech , normal head first, feet first) and when you would feel comfortable with a c-section, and decide whether or not your doctor is the "try and save time" kind of guy...

You should be in charge of everything as long as your labor is progressing normally and safely. Unless the baby for whatever reason is going into distress or you have some medical issue that comes up, there isn't any reason you can't make your decisions on your birth plan.
