I have heard they're not but they seem pretty popular. I really don't know. I was thinking about getting ds one for Christmas, he just turned 4. Anyone have any info? If I did get one it would be with the safety enclosure, not sure how much of a difference that would make?

We got one last year for our girls birthdays.  They were 5 and 6 at the time.  Our 2 year old jumps on it with them.  Ours does have the enclosure, which I do recommend.  My MIL has one without an enclosure and my oldest fell off.

They are safe as long as he's using it properly, which will be how you teach him.

I don't know how safe they are for little kids, but I can tell you two experiences I had with a trampoline when I was an early teenager (maybe 13 or 14).

The one time, me, my brother and his friend were all jumping. They were/are two years older than me. Well, they got this bright idea to try and bounce me off the trampoline. Yep, they succeeded. I went flying off that thing and hit the ground hard. I couldn't walk. I seriously thought I broke my hip or something.

Then, another time, my brother and his friend were jumping, and they both jumped in the same spot at the same time. The trampoline broke under their weight. It just collapsed to the ground.

But, as I said, we were all young teens, and stupid. We didn't have an enclosure or anything, and with all of us on there, I'm sure we were over the weight limit......

I know, I'm not much help--so just consider this a bump =)

We had one when we were kids and we never got hurt, although I did land badly trying to do a flip, bad enough that I didn't ever do another one.

Now just this past summer my 10 year old niece double bounced my 3 year old niece and broke her leg.  Poor baby had a cast for the first 6 weeks of summer.

They are pretty safe if kids use them correctly, and especially if you have the enclosure.

My son has used them to practice his parkour/free running flips, and has not had any issues.

They are excellent exercise too.

OK well you ladies just squashed that idea for me! Haha. I was lukewarm on the idea anyway. I'd rather hear these stories now then after I had it, and worry all the time and regret spending the money.

If you get one, make sure it has the enclosure on it.  My ex almost broke his back falling off of one of those.
