What's the matter with him?

My toddler usually goes to bed with no problem. He also naps well. The last few days he screams and cries he doesn't want to take a nap and I have to make him cry it out.

At night it's worse. He wants to either sleep with me, have me rock him to slep or screams for 20 mins before falling to sleep. He ususally sleeps 10 or 11 hours at night and takes 2 hour naps.

A few days before this started, he sleep more than usual and I think he had a growth spurt.

What could this mean? Do you think his schedule is changing? Should I cut out the nap? What to do?

Try to ask him why he doesn't want to sleep.  Maybe if he had a special toy or a special light on.  My husband thinks it's crazy but my 33 month old has to have a light on, her ladybug that shines stars in the room, a book, her fan on and her blankie to go to sleep.  It could be something simple.  If nothing else try to put him down a little later for a nap and make it only 1 hour and see if that helps.  Many toddlers still need naps or you need them to take a nap.lol  Good luck!

omg! how old is your son? i will definitely trade you! my 4 year old sleeps like 4-6 hours a night, no naps... its kinda crazy cuz he really passed out about a hour ago on the couch. i'm scared of moving him cuz anytime he sleeps before 10:30 (which is right now), he'll be up within 2 hours (so he'll be up in a hour) ready to go ALL night. gah.

i think he had a growth spurt. but then again, i can never imagine having a kid sleep for 11 hours a night- or even a day just split up. try going one day without a nap and see how he does-- is he cranky? irritable? can he function properly without the nap?

do you know if anything happened that made him scared? like my brother freaked my son out by wearing the Jason mask (or maybe it was michael's mask..? eh- the white face with crazy orange-ish hair).. my brother was in the laundry room, my son came downstairs and was trying to turn on the light (which is on the other side of the room from the entance, right beside the door to the laundry room).. but as soon as the light switched on, my brother threw the door open, jumped out and was like "ahhh! i'ma get you!".. in his defense, he thought that it was me (i did the same thing a few days before, but at the front door- knocked on it and when he opened, i shoved the mask in his face, freaking him out)... but yea- it took the LONGEST time for my son to be okay with being in our bedroom. i had to turn the lights on for him before he'd go down there, the lights had to be on when he went to bed, etc. it sucked, but if i didnt do that, he'd cry and carry on like he was being tortured.

The only thing I can think of that might have messed him up was that we brought my Aunts house for her to babysit and we went to a concert and came back by about 12am. My sister was also there and said he had a great time and only asked for us a few times, but didn't cry at all.

We all slept over her house and when I got back there and went to take him off the couch to put him in a bed. He woke up, saw me and cried hysterically.

Since then he freaks out everytime I go to put him to sleep. i have left him with his dad, which i rarely do, at home today too and he was fine so i don't know.

We have a routine that we follow every night. I read him a book and I give him his dog, put on his crib light, tuck him in, sometimes i sing to him if he asks, but he all that doesn't make him feel better now.
