If you were broke and couldn't afford Christmas...

Would you be opposed to applying for a small loan? Like... maybe $500 at max.

The situation: Me and DH had our only vehicle break down and we pretty much had to spend the Christmas money on the truck. I'm so upset and I don't know what to do! I'm thinking about applying for a small loan to see if I can get Christmas. I can pay it back in January because I start school and start drawing my GI bill...BUT... I'm hesitant to do it. Are there any other options?

Is it a loan from a bank?

How old are your children?

we are broke and cant afford christmas, if we could i would take out a small loan, say $100, i dont think you would need $500 for christmas, with 100 you can buy your kids something nice. i dont know how many kids you have either. i have two and 100 extra dollars would make the perfect christmas for our kids. as of right now they are only getting an outfit from my mother.

Yes. My DD is 4 and it's DS's first Christmas. He's 7 months.

I feel so horrible! We aren't really even having thanksgiving... We don't have the money to go anywhere and don't have enough money to make it either....

If its a legit loan...with low interest and from a bank not a payday loan place I might consider it.

That being said I would get some dollar tree toys for your DD or maybe 4 or 5 toys for under $10 so she has a lot to open and maybe one bigger thing for DS since he wont remember anyways. You could accomplish Christmas (tree and all)for less than $100.

I've been looking in goodwill stores for some things. I've found one or two cute things that were cheap. I'm just not sure how much the minimum is for getting a loan. I was always told it was around $500... but I could be very wrong.

probably not. We are trying not to do things like that. WE have saved cash the past few years. IF we were broke we have credit cards but Id rather not have Christmas than to run up our credit again. WE will be done paying off Christmas of 08 at the beginning of next year I will never fo that again. I guess the only way Id take out a load is if I knew for sure that Id be able to pay it completely off very quickly.

We don't have any credit cards... and we were saving, but what we had saved, we had to use on the truck...

i wouldnt. just because i hate owing people money. i would be on craigslist, and at the dollar store. or getting the cheaper toys at target, like the barbies that are $5, or the little baby dolls that are like $10. coloring books and crayons are pretty cheap too. but for two kids, $500 would be too much for me, if i had to get a loan for it.
