I will be getting my grant check in about 7-10 days and I am not sure what options is better. I know we NEED to get a laptop and a trundle bed. I am going to school online and have been running to in laws houses, neighbors, and library to get homework done. The trundle bed it for my sons, my youngest is in the crib that was converted into a toddler bed but it is starting to fall apart. (we have had the crib for 4 years) Here is what I think we could do but I am not sure would be the best route to take.
Option 1
1875.00
- 800.00 Laptop (not the best but will work)
=1075.00
-250.00 Trundle bed and matresses
=825.00
-300.00 Christmas for the kids 100.00 a piece
=525.00
-522.00 Get caught up on bills
=3.00
Option 2
1875.00
-1112.00 Better laptop especially for the business world and the degree I am getting
=763.00
-250.00 Trundle bed
=513.00
-300.00 Kids' Christmas
=213.00 Now that is not enough to full get us caught up on bills but it would get us closer.
Now what is making this a hard decision is the laptop. The first laptop is just an every sony that you get at best buy. The second one is a custimized HP that is touchscreen, has a larger memory, battery, processor and just about everything else. I am going for my bachelors in businees management so the second one would be a better option for the business world. Should I settle for the cheaper laptop so everything else works out or should I just go for the better one and skimp a little on getting caught up on bills and get caught up by using every penny from paychecks for the next month to month and a half. Now we get food stamps so we could easily use all the money from paychecks to get caught up with out having to take anything from the grocery allowance and all we would need is 300 more and I will be getting another 200 in grants in February and anouther 1000+ plus we have lawyas gotten a good refund at least 6000+ from our taxes so would I be a bad mom or person for going for the better laptop or is it ok? Sorry if this is hard to understand I start rambling while trying to explain.
I can not buy any of this on black friday deals because I won't get my grant until after. Also I will have my BA degree in December of 2011. I also plan on getting a degree in massage therapy and plan on opening my own massage thereapy business. If that helps answer any question you might have.

Laptops are only designed to be of use for a good couple years, and I wouldn't buy one so expensive unless you have mega software applications that you will be downloading & using for work (i.e. CAD design software). With the prices on computers right now, you can snatch up a good one with higher processing speeds & more memory for up to half the usual retail pricing. Take advantage of the cyber monday deals.
I would get a better laptop. I use mine just for email and photos and CM and FB, not the business stuff (well, i do some ebay, so i guess that counts as business stuff) and believe me, i can really feel when the computer is slow and the memory is small. It wastes my time and makes me mad, lol. So, if you are going to be using it for your business degree in school, your needs for a better laptop are higher then mine, therefore, you need a good one!
Also, it is probably better time to buy it now (may be better deals?), then in the beginning of the new year....i am not sure, i might be wrong here...
Anyway, may be you can wait to find a better deal on a good laptop, but i wouldn't settle for something that is not going to satisfy your needs and then drive you insane, lol.
And you are NOT a bad mom, come one, you are going to school to better your family's future, i disliked school so much, (even though i did graduate) that i can not even imagine getting a degree when having kids, kudos to you!

If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice.
$198 for a laptop at Wal-Mart on the Black Friday sale.
Weekends only for a trundle bed and mattress. I've NEVER spent more than $100 on a bed AND mattress. Where are you shopping?
NO reason to spend that much on kids for Christmas if you still need to get caught up on bills. $50 a piece is more than enough unless they are teenagers.
Spend the rest on bills. Obviously. :)

Good luck.

Option number 1.
You don't need the fanciest laptop... Exp. if you have children. It takes a matter of mere seconds for it to be destroyed... lol
But seriously, the first laptop might be plain jane but who cares. All your doing is homework. Maybe sometime down the road you can buy the more expensive one... But getting caught up on your bills and xmas sound like better ways to spend the rest of the money..
My opinion!
don't like it... don't read it!

You can get a laptop for less than $800.00 so I would look into that and get caught up on bills & the other stuff you said & stll have some left over.
There are really good laptops out there designed for what you are looking for that are priced for less than $1000.
Mine is a Toshiba, 17" screen, wireless internet, 4GB hard drive, GeoGorce4 video card, etc (in other words really well set up) and I paid $650.00 at BestBuy 2 years ago. I would keep shopping for the laptop.
