So reading through the "SAHM or UNEMPLOYED on PA" post made me wonder. Many are okay with a SAHM collecting PA because it would be 'too hard' for her to work outside of the home, but in posts where single mom's 'choose not to work' because it would be 'too hard', many have a problem with that. IS there a double standard here? Or is it all determined by YOUR situation, and it would be okay if YOU were in that position, but not when someone else is?

Just wondering what people's thoughts are.

Oh and if you are 'sick of the drama posts' and consider this to be one...go here and answer this REAL post that is not looking for drama, but that most people are ignoring because there is no drama....OY!

if your able to work and you are still bringing in money (after day care costs) then you should be working.

if it doesnt make sense financially then no they should not work

Only if you or your child has a medical issue that requires you to stay home.

I am not on PA and I work (as does my SO), because that is what I need to do to support my family.  If I ever become a SAHM it will be because we have gotten to the point where we have enough financial security for me to stay home.

I picked other because I've been in two situations. When I was a single mom, I went to school and I was on PA and not working (not by my own choice, I was looking). Now, I'm married and I'm a SAHM because, right now, our baby is only 3 months old and we are waiting until after the holidays for me to go back to work, 'cause my husband is working odd hours and we can't afford daycare. Even then, I will be working part time, while attending school. When I get done with school, the baby will be old enough to put in daycare (we both don't want to put her in daycare under a year old unless we ABSOLUTELY have to).

Single moms do not have the option to not work. They are the only parent in the home and therefore need to provide for the family. The only exception would be if they have a special needs child.
