What were the first symptoms, how long did it take to realize it might be the flu?

My 1 year old was at daycare with 3 kids who over the weekend were all diagnosed with the flu. The last time he was with them was Friday. Monday night he wouldnt sleep at all and just kept crying off and on. Today he's been real fussy and drooling alot and only eating a little. His face is a little puffy looking, you know like a "sick look" but he has no cough, runny nose, or fever.

He's been acting real cranky almost the last 24 hours, do you think this is the beginning of the flu or maybe just teething? If he wasnt around people who had the flu, then i definetly wouldnt think flu, but since he was im worried.

My boys have already had the flu this year. They are older so its different i know. It started with the achies and the next day the fever started. It got really high with both of them. The doctor told me with the flu the fever won't go down like normal. Tylenol didn't work, they noticed it didn't work on most of the children either. Motrin works better and if the fever stays the same then you are regulateing the fever. That is what it is going to do. Other than the fever all they had was there tummy hurt. i have heard of alot of people getting this. They tested them for flu but it came up negitive. They said it has been doing that. People have been comming in with the flu but it is not registering on the tests, but they still have the flu. It lasted for a week. Other than everything i have said they sleep alot. The doctor said its there body fighting off the flu. Made sense to me. There isn't anything you can give them to help either. If your child does get the flu, make sure they drink plenty of liquids and try to regulate the fever. With my boys after the fever was gone, then they got the ciugh and runny noses. It was wierd.

They told me know there are so many strands of the flu it is hard to tell which they have. That was from the doctors mouth!

It sounds like he might be teething :)

Thanks both of you. Yeah i really hope its just teething. I have noticed even though he has no runny nose, he sounds a bit congested, like i can hear him breathing, usually his breathing is quiet.
