Okay so I know the USMC has the annual ball because of the Marine Corps Birthday, November 10, 1775. So my question is, why do the other branches have a ball around the same time of year? Is their birthday around that time too or did they just randomly deccide to do it?

What is the reason behind having a ball? Just for fun or is it to celebrate something special?

Army randomly decides when their company or battalion wants to hold their ball.

Most of the time we have them just for fun to get together have fun with friends and meet new people. Sometimes we have them around Christmas or Valentines day and incorporate that into the ball.

oh ok. i was just wondering. My hubby is a Marine and the ball we went to was VERY formal, had a message from he commadon and sgt maj. and the cake cutting ceremony and such lol. I was just wondering if the other branches did something like that or if it was just a get together thing.

Well Raven you have to remember the Marine Corps..no knock on the other branches...are more steeped in tradition than the others that's why we have to sit threw the reading of the birthday speech..the same one every year and the procession of the cake and who cuts and all of that stuff too ;P at least it gives us longer time to look at our men in those yummy dress blues *drools*
