its feels great to know that 2 children in my city will have a brighter christmas because of my family this year :)
we 'adopted' 2 angels from the salvation army angel tree, a boy (9) and a girl (7) and got them each something from thier wish lists :) the girl wanted an easy bake oven and some extra food and the boy wanted a transformers bed set :)
we spent a little more than we were expecting to, but i know these kids will love it when they open thier gifts :)
do you ever 'adopt' kids or families for christmas? it feels so rewarding.
Our Unit runs the Angel Tree program so I usually do adopt one, but I dont think I will this year.
here is a link, hope it works :)

i went to my local mall where they have a tree up. picked 2 tags off the tree. i had to sign a 'log in sheet' so they could record the children i picked. and then i shop :) :) take the gifts back to where i selected my angels and thats it!
Quoting LuvmySFSGT:
How do you do this?
Where do you go to find out about it?
oh, and thats for the online program through jcpenny.. im trying to find what i found yesterday, lol
This year was the first time my family has done one. I have always wanted to but never did. I chose a one year old boy this year. We bought him an Elmo, a drum that teaches the ABC's, an outfit and a jacket. It makes me so happy knowing that he will have a great Christmas. I'm trying to teach my children to help others and also show them how fortunate they are for all they have.
ok. this is for my city, memphis. i googled 'salvation army angel tree memphis' so you might be able to try with the name of your city ?

The Angel Tree Program
The Angel Tree program provides underprivileged children and seniors with holiday gifts and proof that someone cares.
This program relies on the selfless giving and support of the community to bring joy and happiness to those less fortunate during the holiday season. No child chooses to live in poverty and no senior ever expects to rely on the goodwill of others. The Angel Tree program provides clothing, special-needs gifts and other wished-for items such as toys.
During a screening process to verify need, Angels (children ages 12 and under and seniors ages 62 and older) are qualified for the program. Angels are assigned a tag listing their name, age, sex, clothing size and the item(s) they would like or need. During the holiday season, these tags are added to the Angel Trees at Carrefour at Kirby Woods, Oak Court Mall and Wolfchase Galleria. In addition to the trees at the malls, many corporations have Angel Trees at their offices.
Angel Tree is a huge undertaking that requires intense coordination. In 2008, 6,032 volunteers provided 19,205 hours working at the trees in the malls, helping at the warehouse and distributing gifts.
Numbers of Angels served in 2008:
- 4,399 Children served
- 689 Seniors served
- 2,467 Mothers served
- 7,555 Total
- 1,655 Bikes distributed
We are particularly grateful to the following for their support for the 2009 Angel Tree program: AutoZone, FedEx, International Paper, Flextronics, Valero, Technicolor by Thomson, The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary, Clear Channel Radio, Cellular South, WREG News Channel 3, Wolfchase Galleria, Oak Court Mall and Carrefour at Kirby Woods.
