3 hr glucose test..anyone had gestinational diabetes?
I have to go in tomorrow to get the 3 hour glucose test done. I failed the one hour yesterday. Not looking forward to this long test, but want to know if I have something to worry about or not. Anyone had gestinational diabetes? Any info for me? Tips? What was your treatment? Did it go away after devliery? What was your experience with it? fyi..I know everyone is different and I have been researching a bit, but lets hear others POV.

i failed my first one to and when i took the 3 hour one i passed thats how it goes alot with everyone i know the only person i know of having it is my aunt and thats cause she eats to much junk in my opinion she has diabetes now but good luck
I had gestational diabetes with my first DS. First I went to a weekly class on dietary guidelines to follow. I also had to test my blood sugar 4 times a day and keep track on a chart that we went over in my classes. I was not able to control my blood sugar levels with diet alone and was put on an insulin shot once a day. That was not too fun, but you do what you have to do. I had my DH give it to me because it had to be injected into the muscle in my arm. After I gave birth, I was fine. My levels normalized like nothing had been wrong to begin with. My DS was also fine. I also did not get gestational diabetes with my second DS. Good luck! I hope everything turns out ok. If you have any more questions, feel free to message me! :)
the glucose test was the worst part for me. in a way, having gd was a good thing, since i had to really watch what i ate and exercise, i gained the least amount of weight with my gd kid than my others.
i had to test my blood every morning right when i got up and after every meal. i also had to test my urine each morning. i am squeamish about needles so if i had had to do insulin, i would have freaked, but the finger prick thing for testing wasn't a problem. my doctor told me i could stop testing after every meal midway through - do about half my meals, but she didn't want me to stop totally. more to keep me honest than because it was necessary. gd goes away immediately after the placenta is delivered. really.
With my DD I also failed the one hour and passed the three hour one so I have never had gestational diabetes but I have talked to a bunch of women who have had and after they gave birth it went away and they didn't have to deal with again. My problem isn't usually high blood sugar levels, but low blood sugar levels and I have no idea if they look at that or just at high ones.

I had it with all three of my pregnancies. With the 1st 2 it was diet controlled. With the twins I was on insulin.
it all depends of the tests results. The Dr. will have you meet with a nutritionists. You may be able to control it with a diet if needed.
You baby and you should be fine if you follow a diet and don't to far along.
I failed my 3 hour, and I have gestination diabetes right now, I will be 21 weeks thursday. I was diagnosed when I was only 12 weeks with it. I was ok drinking the stuff for the frist hour, but after that it made me really sick. but I kept it down lol. At frist they put me on a carb diet, it helped out alot but not enuff. I take 3 insuian(sp) shots a day. It sucks but Im used to it now. I have to prick my finger 4 times a day & keep track of it. my doctor told me that almost all woman go back to normal after a hour of giving birth. & theres a higher risk of c section because the babies can get really big when a woman has gd. dont worry to much, until you know for sure, alot of woman fail there 1st and pass there 3 hour. good luck momma.
Well I tested too high when I went for the 3 hr test, so they couldn't do it. I was deemed to have GD. I controlled it with diet. But I know a lot of people who had to have insulin shots. One who admittedly did that rather than watch what she ate.
Mine went away when I had my son. But after you have it, they say you have a 75% chance of becoming diabetic within 3 yrs of giving birth. I haven't. and neither have the people I know of...so I don't know where they get that number. IMO it's not as bad as it seems. Oh I also had to pee on a stick every freaking morning because of ketones in my urine. They don't know if high levels are actually bad, but they had me test everyday just so they knew where the levels where. Oh and I had to test my sugar 3 times a day. The hospital gave me a tester, strips, 'needles' and training in what to do (don't know if that is insurance specific or not...I would think not).
I had diabetes for almost 8 years before I got pregnant. I got a pump about 3 months into my pregnancy and it was great. Don't stress yourself out about what could be - wait until they do the test and someone tells you for sure. Besides, look on the bright side - it could make you more aware of what you eat and you could end up being that much healthier!
Most people I know that have had GD say that it went away after they had their babies. The reason that diabetics have such BIG children is because all the excess sugar that is roaming around your body in the last trimester goes straight to the baby and they pack on weight.
Also, you dont give insulin shots in the muscle, it goes into the fatty layer of skin.
Good luck!
I had it with my last 2 pregnancies
I
have to go in tomorrow to get the 3 hour glucose test done. I failed
the one hour yesterday. Not looking forward to this long test, but
want to know if I have something to worry about or not. Anyone had
gestinational diabetes? Any info for me? As in diets and such? I was sent to a dietician when I had it..I was given a diet. I was told to exercise which I did faithfully.
Tips?Follow the diet and get exercise(as long as the doctor says it's safe)...depending on your treatment...carefully monitor your blood sugar levels and test as directed. Don't be afraid to ask questions or bring up any concerns with your doctor...
What was your treatment?Unfortunately, diet and exercise didn't keep my numbers down. I was put on insulin. I was amazed how easy it was to give myself a shot..I actually had to give myself 3 shots a day of insulin.
Did it go away after devliery? Immediately after..however, I am insulin dependent..and I understand because I developed GD, I am at greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
What was your experience
with it? It was inconvienent. I had to go to dr. appointments more frequently and the visits were longer so I could have stress tests. I will say the weight gain was minimal. I gained 18 pounds with my 2nd pregnancy and 19 with my 3rd. My babies were born average size...
fyi..I know everyone is different and I have been researching a bit, but lets hear others POV.
Who I am as a mom can not be expressed in a paragraph. It is expressed by who my children will become.
