I'd like to start out by saying that I am a married SAHM NOT on PA. I, however, have no problem with anyone being a SAHM on PA as long as they take care of their kids and the use the money proper (meaning no drugs, tobacco, alcohol, etc). No one knows other people's situation. And with the economy the way it is, it's not easy to land a job. Especially one that'll pay well enough to have daycare. And not everyone on PA will qualify for daycare assistance. Heck, we're not even on PA and we can't afford daycare! That's one reason I'm a SAHM. I would love to work part time. I WAS working part time (4 AM-9 AM) until I was let go while I was on maternity with #2. My husband's work schedule changes all the time (even though it's not supposed to). They were the only one's willing to put up with me calling out regularly... especially with unemployment being so high. Other people will be at work no matter what.
Daycare is expensive, especially if you want a good one! I'd rather someone be a SAHM and be on PA then go work some job that MAY be enough to pay daycare. Where their child could be abused because they had to get the cheapest, and they are still on PA because their job only pays for daycare.
They economy is scary. No job is safe. This could be anyone of us in the foreseeable future. Be thankful for everything you have, and don't judge others. You never know when if could be your turn.
luckily for my daughter, daycare assistance allows me to put her in a nice, clean preschool at a rate i can actually afford. =]
If i were to go back to work we would not only loss my DD's insurance but then we wouldn't qualify for day care assistance :( I love being a stay at home mom but we are stuck right now. I am trying to get back into school so when she goes to school I can go back to work and we will be able to afforded personal insurance.

Personally I think more women should stay home...and if PA is needed to do that(while their SO is working) then thats what needs to be done. I ahve no issues with women choosing that route.
why the part in parentheses? are single women allowed to be sahm's on pa?
I and my dh, are sah parents. He is on disability, I am pregnant and waiting for my approval or denial for ssi, and we have wic foodstamps and medicaid... My dd is well taken care of and my son will be too. Everything I get goes to the appropriate stuff.

To be on PA someone needs to be working or collecting unemployment...I don't make the rules.
I agree. And I just can't believe the moms on here who bash other moms that are in college, and get pa and/or government grants. and they say that if you choose to further your education, then you should have been able to afford it all by yourself first. or you should have thought about that before you had kids. I mean, seriously, wtf? IMO it is better that a woman tries to further her education so she can actually get a decent job someday and contribute to society, instead of just sit at home and keep poppin out kids and still get PA!!!!
