I don't understand why people get offended when.....

you ask them to wash your hands before they hold a newborn baby. My in laws (who most are nuts anyway) got all offended when we asked them to do this when they came to the hospital when DD was born. To me that is just common sense. I do that even with an older baby. They got all offended when we asked them to do that, even though there was a sign that said please wash your hands before handling the babies. The reason I ask this now is that my DH's cousin was all offended and complaining about someone asking her to wash her hands when she went to see their new baby. It doesn't mean you are dirty, jeez. Would you get offended if someone asked you to wash your hands? Maybe I am nuts by not thinking this is offensive.

I made my husbands EX stepmother take a SHOWER and change her clothes before she could hold DD. LOL!

We did that with my MIL lol. She wears so much perfume she smells like a prostitute and body glitter and whenever she held DD she smelled like a stripper and glittered

It was just habit with us.  Our oldest had to spend time in the NICU and you had to scrub up to your elbows for like a minute before you could go back.

When they were little, I would always make DH change his clothes after he smoked before he would pick any of them up.

It was the rule at our hospital when my baby boy was born. It is common sense. But I felt if they got offended if the nurses told them, then they shouldn't be in the hospital. Once we got back home...my daughter who is 6 made it clear to everyone to wash their hands...she was helpful!

My son was a preemie and any time we entered the NICU we washed our hands without even thinking about. And we continued that when he came home. We didn't want to chance anything. Now I do this with any and all babies. I also did this when my neice (also a preemie but came home right away healthy) was born too. They are just so little and I don't want to expose  them to something whether or not I "think I may be clean."

i just carried a bottle of hand sanitizer in the diaper bag, that way there was no excuses or complaining about having to get up, leave, go wash hands, and come back. i could just pull it out and hand it to them real quick before i hand them the baby!
