well... we were going to adopt another cat {we currently have one}
but cats... they can be costly. we have a cat, a dog and three kids... they all are "costly" lol
so, dh and i have decided on guinea pigs.
i had one as a kid... and if memory serves me right, it "squeeled" when it was hungry or excited.
i don't remember what kind of pet it was honestly {mean, nice} so i need advice.
what exactly do they eat again? can you all list some safe and healthy treats they can eat or some of the things they enjoy? toys? excersise?
i need some info ladies.. yes i know i can google it but i would rather hear from people who physically have these animals.

wow, this is freaky as hell!! I just posted about getting my DD one for Christmas. I just got done reading a book all about them. They love fresh fruit but their fav is oranges and melons. They can also graze on fresh grass. I really wanted to get her one, but they cost too much for her to have it for Christmas. I tried to ask her what she thought about hamsters and she said she would be unhappy if she got a hamster for XMAS. Well, I can afford to get a $9.00 hampster but I just can't swing $40 for Guinea Pig plus everything else it would need.
I went online and did a lot of research on them. They are quite easy to care for.
My Beautiful Family

i'm actually looking at the providence animal league because to my surprise... they have some for adoption and their rates are amazing! i can probably pick up two for the price of one.. cage and set up included.
they have everything at that shelter! hamsters, ferrets. i was pleasantly surprised.

LOVE guinea pigs but I'm allergic to them :(
They are very sweet little animals and they squeal when they see you and I had one at one time that would squeal when she saw me bringing her some carrots. I had to give her away though.
They eat carrots (too much fresh veggies cause diahrrea-so be careful)-basically all veggies, rabbit food I think it was, and those alphalfa bricks. They also need wood and stuff to chew on to keep their teeth from growing too long.

They have some at our shelter as well. You can even find them on craigslist sometimes!
I used to have them about 2 years ago, they did squeak when they were excited and would sometimes jump around. We had to give ours away because they really need to be able to get out of their cages and have time to run and we couldn't do that in our apartment and we were never home to be able to play with them. We fed them the normal guinea pig food and then I believe we sometimes gave ours apples slices, orange slices, spinach or romaine lettuce and possibly carrots all should be given in moderation though, especially the fruit. You should avoid the guinea pig treats. As for toys, ours loved this little thing we clipped onto the side of the cage that had wood blocks on it because they like to chew it. Same with a cardboard bedding tube, they usually chew those too, or little wooden alphabet blocks. Good luck! They are really sweet but they really need a lot of attention and otherwise they just get sad and lazy.
We actually have two rats as pets, and I'd recommend them over guinea pigs any day! If you're not freaked out by them! They're like little dogs... They are totally interactive, love to play with you, sit with you, they aren't expensive, (the cages can be pricey, but you only need to get one once) and they eat the same kinds of foods as guinea pigs. They are neat (they use one spot in their cage as their bathroom) and don't smell too bad, unless you don't clean their cage often enough. Hope this helps!
i love rats and we have had them as pets... but... my kids are a bit rough {younger kids}
not mean or abusive... just not really ready for something smaller like a rat
