a mom leaves her ONE MONTH OLD in the car while she goes inside the post office & the child was kidnapped. who leaves their one month old in the car alone?! who leaves their kids alone in the car period?! i have 2 kids and if i have to go inside the gas station i don't care how big of a hassle it is i take them both out of the carseats and take them in to pay, unless i'm able to use my card at the pump.

My son is 8. He stays in the car while I run into the gas station sometimes. He also stays home by himself while I run to get gas on occasion. He is learning independence. 1 month old is way to young but IMO 8 years old is not.

This happened where I live and I totally agree! I could not believe it when I read it. I just cannot fathom leaving my child in the car by herself (in my case) even just to run in to drop off some mail! Not that anyone deserves for this to happen but when you do that you are just asking for something like this to happen! I don't care if she pulled up to the door and could see the car from inside (which obviously was not the case), you just do not do that! I mean, HOW does that even sound like a remotely good idea??

Proud Navy Wife to Mark; baby girl Loving Mother to McKenna; and pregnant bellyone on the way.

My son started being able to stay in the car alone when he was about 12 or 13. IMO if you leave your child in the car, you would be able to leave your child home alone.

I would not leave an child any younger alone - anywhere for any reason.

Im sorry but 8 yrs old is still too young to be letting him stay home by himself. Thats just pure lazyness on your part (IMO)

To the OP, she must be off her rocker to think that it was ok to do that, i mean..does she think that the world is a safe place ?

i'm in nc about 20 mins from charlotte and when i heard this is thought WHAT?!?!?! and i agree, nobody deserves this to happen to them but that's just asking for something to happen. maybe that will teach her next time to NEVER leave her child unattended period! i'm scared enough as it is while i'm on one side pumping gas for someone to jump in and take them that way too. i never turn my back on my car with my kids sitting in it while pumping gas or doing anything, i just never turn my back on them.

i was never allowed to stay at home alone even when i was 16. i think the first time my parents ever left me at home alone was when i was 21. they went to the beach, i couldn't go and had to work. i never gave them a reason to not trust me either, they just didn't bc i was a girl. ???

That Mom asked for trouble! It was probably wishful thinking that everything would be okay but I think it was just laziness!

This goes back a while and thought I'd bring this up but when my fiance was a little guy around 3 or 4, his Mom left him in the car while she ran into the liquor store! The car was running and the next thing, the car went through the wall, into the liquor store! Apparently the car was on a little bit of a down  hill...

He was okay but said he wanted to drive! lol I think she learned her lesson and more!  The car was also badly damaged. I don't think she ever left him in the car alone again. When she told me the story, I was laughing and wanted to tell her how stupid she was but it could have been serious..

What happened to the baby, was he found?

I can't imagine what she was thinking to leave her baby in the car.  My daughter is almost 16 and I still don't leave her in the car.  I would do anything to protect my children and leaving them in a vehicle is never an option, there are just too many crazy people in this world.
