My daughter is one and we are currently transitioning here. I believe the rule of thumb is one year old.

Mine is 13 months and has his.  My older son had his until 18 months, and I felt like that was pushing it for "too old".  He just refused a sippy.  We will probably start working on DS#2 with a sippy  next month, as soon as I'm out of school

I took the bottle away at one. SO for me they are too old when they can sit up and feed themselves and drink out of a sippy cup succesfully. I hate seeing kids that can run and dance still with a bottle

with my older son, we made a big deal about moving to his sippys on his 1st birthday, he loved it, he put his bottles in the trash himself and took straight for the sippy

my son is 14 mths now and he was definitely still on the  bottle after he officially turned one -- but it wasnt hard at all like I thought it would be..give her time.

Jordan is now on a sippy!

My son gave his up at 8 months and my daughter at 7 months, their choice not mine. Both were on solid foods at 8 months, their choice not mine. They really did it all on their own. According to my mom, my sister had her bottle until she was 15 months. Kind of a security thing she said. Try switching her to one of those sippy cups that have the same nipple as a bottle, if you are trying to get rid of the bottle. Every child is different and gives things up at their own pace. I wouldn't worry.

A child is too old for a bottle whenever their mother decides they are too old for it.  My kids were off of it at 12 months and my youngest at 13 months.

dd is 10 almost 11 months old and we dropped the bottle about 2 weeks ago with no problems... Much easier then I thought... But I've been told about a year old

In my personal opinion?  As soon as the motor skills are developed enough that the child can successfully take a cup to their mouth and drink, it's a fine time to let the bottle go.
