i am going to make pumpkin pie, but i made some today just to have here, and it took forever to get ready... the middle was still sticking to a toothpick and the crust and edges were turning a dark brown. i made the libby's recipe and i am disappointed in how nasty it tastes.  does anyone know what went wrong??? or is there a better recipe?i have a gas oven

DId you put foil around the edges of the crust? If you took it out because of the burning crust, you may have undercooked it. Just guessing

have you ever had pumpkin pie? it may just turn out that you don't like it that way. Try making a different pumpklin dessert like a roll or cake. I make a pumpkin spice cake for the holidays now becuase it has replaced the favorite tradition of pumpkin pie in my family! Very yummy!

I use the Recipe in the Betty Croker cookbook. The pumpkin filling is a custard. You have to cook at a higher temp for like 15min to set the filling.Than you turn it down to cook. Also like a prevois poster said put foil on  the crust to keep from burning.I also use fresh pumpkin not canned and reg milk not canned.

I just made one today too (did a test one last week) though I made mine from scatch using canned pumpkin and a butter pastry crust.  How long did you bake it?  I have a gas stove too and bake mine at 350 for 45 min.  You shouldn't judge by the middle...stick a knife about an inch from the crust and it should come out clean (the middle may still look wet).   Also you want the oven rack not so close to the heat (I put the top one to the second from the bottom).   Oh and if you are tasting it warm it probably tastes yucky...it is amazing how different it tastes once you cool it completely and stick it in the fridge to get cold.  Hope the one for tomorrow turns out better. :)

okay, i used a pre-made gram cracker crust and used these directions  directly from the can of pumpkin except i had to cook my pie 10 or 15 more minutes because when i stuck a knife near the center it came out with wet pumpkin pie

BAKE in preheated 425° F oven for 15 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350° F; bake for 40 to 50 minutes or until knife inserted near center comes out clean.

I've had pumpkin pie once, but i can't remember it tasting this yucky!!!
