I have a question about defrosting a turkey....
My MIL in cooking thanksgiving dinner at my house tomorrow. She brought over the frozen turkey today for me to defrost it. The directions say to defrost it in the refrigerator and not at room temperature. My MIL told me to defrost it on the counter in water. Which one do you think will go faster?
I'm interested in hearing the answers too. Mine is currently defrosting in COLD water in my sink.

well if you defrost it in the fridge...it will NOT defrost in time. your best bet is it sit in cold water and then put it in the fridge. Unless you leave it out overnight it will still not be defrosted. You may want to put it in the oven 1-2 hours ahead of schedule at low heat to finish thawing it.
Yup. Cold water in the sink. Change the water regularly so it stays cold. I hope you have enough time.
It should take about 4-5 hours in the water. It would take a couple of days in the fridge. There is a calculator in Butterball's website that tells you how long they take.
Quoting jessicer421:
It's an 8 1/2 pound turkey breast. No bones
Quoting myfoursonsks:
In COLD water in the sink. You have to make sure the water is cold. It will never thaw in time in the fridge at this point.
What size is it?
I JUST TOOK MINE OUT OF THE FREEZER AND INTO THE SINK FILLED WITH WATER, AND THATS WHERE IT WILL STAY UNTIL TOMMOROW, IT ALWAYS IS DEFROSTED IN THE MORNING. ALTHOUGH YOU REALY ARE SUPPOSE TIO DEFROST IT IN THE FRIDGE, MINE IS TWENTY POUNDS, AND I WANT IT AT ROOM TEMP! GOOD LUCK!![]()
Well, I suppose you could do what I did! My mother bought a turkey and since we weere driving in my car she put it in my trunk. Well, after we were done shopping I drove her home which is 30 minutes form my house...It was late, I was tired and so I drove straight back home and fell asleep. This all happened on Sunday night. Well, my mom came over yesterday and asked how much the turkey weighed that she had bought and she asked me where it was????? I said how would I know what she did with it and she just stared at me with dis-belief, LOL! That night when I dropped her off I guess she asked me to take the turkey home that was in my trunk and put it in the fridge to defrost and I don't remember her telling me that so I didn't do it. Last night, (2 days later) I went out to my car and YUP! there was the defrosted turkey in my trunk, LMAO!
