If you have a female dog that is not fixed what do you do with her while she is in heat so that she doesn't make a mess all over the house? do you confine her to one area, use puppy panties, keep her in her crate? other ideas?

My dog is fixed but I work at a boarding kennel. We get a lot of clients that bring their dog to us while they're in heat and board the dog with us for a few weeks. You know..the rich people lol

Here is a bump for ya.  I'm having the same problem right now and i'm not wanting to get her fixed just yet.  All i do right now though is try to get her off things but its hard.. i've also had to put a towel down on the couch.. Good luck!

We have cut holes in diapers, so that her tail can fit through it. We have also kept her confined to a room before. We so need to get her fixed. I kept hoping we could find another Eski-poo to breed her with 'cause I can't imagine not having a dog just like her in our lives, and I know she will eventually get old and pass away. It makes my stomach hurt to even think about it! However, Eski-poos are evidently not popular breeds because we haven't been able to find another one. =( She is 6-years-old this month, and I know she is getting too old to breed. I guess we'll have to break down and get her fixed.

I home school because I have seen the village, and I don't want it educating my children!

I have a female that isn't fixed and we've never had to do anything and she is almost 6.  Other than being a little cranky, and more under my feet I don't even notice that she's in heat.

My German Shepherd cleans up after herself for the most part. Sometimes I will have to clean the kitchen floor, but usually I don't need to do anything. Is this your first time?

A friend of mine got a Rottie from a breeder who made her sign a contract not letting her spay the dog until after her first heat.  The dog was kept in a crate when she(the owner) was not home and then wore a diaper when she was supervised because the dog was still puppyish and wanted  to eat it.   I personally have mine fixed so i don't have to deal with this.

We use diapers, we just cut a little hole in them for her tail, but you dont want to keep the diapers on her all day long, you need to put one on for about 2 hours and then put her in her crate for about an hour and a half, becuase if you keep the diapers on her all day long then she can develope a yeast infection, plus she will need to clean herself.....

my DH says keep her in her crate unless i'm walking her but i feel bad and just keep her in the kitchen so i can clean up her mess. there is a guy who breeds nearby that has expressed interest in breeding with our dog (she's a brittany) and our vet says to wait until she is at least 4. i would rather get her fixed but my DH can't make up his doggon mind. i think i'll try your diaper idea though.
